Fine, I’ll Stand Up for LA
From the desk of Bibek, Senior Digital Strategist
On Monday night at a rally in Nebraska, the President of the United States, defending a war he started, said “Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego,” and the crowd cheered. As a New Yorker, defending LA does not come naturally, since they took our beloved Dodgers in 1957 and have since taken a frankly unacceptable number of my friends who moved out there to “pursue acting.” But a president talking about a great (okay, I admit it) American city like acceptable collateral damage should make your blood run cold, and it is completely unacceptable,
He’s talking like this because he’s losing. His approval is in freefall, and the Latino coalition that helped put him back in office is cracking, in no small part because his war sent diesel prices through the roof. His fix is to let people put tax-free, red-dyed farm diesel in their trucks through the end of the year, which he admitted he doesn’t know what the hell it is
Trump’s implosion didn’t just happen. Democrats peeled off support by organizing, knocking doors, and showing voters a better option than a guy who’d trade San Diego for an applause line. Now we have to finish the job and win back power so that every American is protected by their government, no matter what city they live in or how they voted. NDTC Learner Spotlight
Meet Adrienne Bell, an NDTC learner and first-time candidate for Brazoria County Clerk in Texas. She’s a math interventionist, a data engineer, and a romance author, so she can build your records system, write a love story, and still represent Texans better than the Republican incumbent. She’s running on user-friendly digital records, expanded early voting, and better-trained poll workers. A win in November flips the seat blue.

Meet the Trainer: Sean Carlson on Centering the Human in Your GOTV Work and Beyond
I sat down with Sean Carlson, a digital strategist on earning trust online, and asked him (among other things) what he’s learned from inside his husband’s school board kitchen cabinet, and canvassing under tough weather conditions
NDTC: We teach new candidates to build a kitchen cabinet. You’re sitting in one right now for your husband. What’s that been like?
Sean: I’m literally in the kitchen and in the kitchen cabinet. We meet weekly. My husband and I both work in politics, but a lot of the people around the table don’t. Our campaign treasurer is also the treasurer of our PTA board, and everybody at the table is a parent with kids in the schools.
They’re a great check on us. They’ll ask, is there a more human way to talk about this? That forces you to test whether you’re doing something because it’s in the standard playbook, or because it works here.
THIS WEEK’S WINS
While the news may seem bleak, here’s what we can win when we organize and show up
The Minneapolis suburb voted to end its contract for more than a dozen license plate reader cameras after residents raised privacy concerns, with the mayor as the only vote against. If Flock wants to spy on Americans, they’ll have to do it by watching our TikToks.
The council voted 7-1 to pause big data center projects while it figures out how to regulate their noise, vibrations, and other impacts on the community. Turns out Raleigh voters actually like clean water and a lack of haunting machine noises.
Republicans have booked more than $700 million in new ads since September just to hold onto states and districts that used to be safely theirs. GOP: We’ve tried shooting our constituents in the foot and they’re still not voting supporting us!
