For those who are grieving, grant yourself the gift of grace and rest. Just because we knew the fight was going to be uphill, doesn’t mean the heartbreak is any less heartbreaking when it arrives.
We aren’t here to offer platitudes or toxic positivity. It doesn’t feel okay right now. Instead, we’re thinking of something Ta-Nehisi Coates said, “I did not tell you that it would be okay, because I have never believed it would be okay. What I told you is what your grandparents tried to tell me: that this is your country, that this is your world, that this is your body, and you must find some way to live within the all of it.”
It’s worth noting the glimmers of hope, some of which are worth repeating.
For the first time in our history, two Black women will be Senators – simultaneously. They will also double the number of Black women Senators, period.
- We also saw the election of the first Korean American Senator and the first out transgender Member of the House of Representatives.
- North Carolina Democrats broke the GOP supermajority in the state house. Come January Republicans will no longer hold the power to override gubernatorial vetoes, which could force them to negotiate with Governor-elect Josh Stein in order to pass their biggest priorities.
- Wisconsin Democrats won several key state Senate races, breaking the Republican 22-seat supermajority and laying the groundwork for Democrats to compete for a majority in 2026.
We’re not going to stop searching for optimism and to uplift fellow Democrats. We will continue reaching out with free opportunities, lessons, and resources with the optimistic view that this work will benefit all of us. It’s how we, at the National Democratic Training Committee, are finding our way to live within the all of it.

Our Learners are Making a HUGE Impact!
Over 2800 NDTC-trained candidates ran this week. Some big names stand out – Rep. Lauren Underwood (IL 14), Emily Randall (WA 06), Suhas Subramanyam (VA 10) – all below the age of 40. There are more, but we’re nowhere close to tabulating all the wins. Because we’re not done counting and figuring out what daily democracy looks like.
Just know, we’re so proud of y’all.
