They came for the maps, we go for their seats
From the desk of Bibek, Senior Digital Strategist
Republicans keep reminding us they have no respect for our values, and I keep being surprised anyway. That’s on me. Their gutting of the Voting Rights Act, their brazen redistricting power grabs. I should know better by now. The stunt they pulled in Memphis last week, cutting up the city’s majority-Black congressional district while protesters packed the galleries, is their latest act of political arson.
Tennessee is now the ninth state to redraw since Trump pushed this into overdrive, and more are coming. What that means in practice is fewer Democrats in Congress, fewer representatives for Black communities, and maps that could lock in Republican control of the House for years.
South Carolina Republicans fumbled their own redistricting attempt this week, which is a small win. But the only durable answer to a rigged map is a wave of candidates who can win and legislators who will fight to fix the rules when they get there. That’s the work. That’s why NDTC was founded.

Jeremy Heneger is running for Nebraska State Legislature District 41 because he felt it was his responsibility to stand up against far-right ideologies that exclude and marginalize Americans. He wants representatives who focus on what most of us actually agree on. This week, he won his primary and will move on to fight in the general.

When you can’t pass a redistricting bill in a state you control completely, that’s a you problem. SC Republicans fumbled their own maps, giving us a prime opportunity to step up and fight back too.
Why this story matters:
Nebraska Dems nominated Cindy Burbank on Tuesday, and she’s already signaling she could step aside for independent Dan Osborn if the math ain’t mathing. Flexible tactics in a state where winning matters more than the D next to your name.
Why this story matters:
Courts have ruled against Trump’s ICE detention policies in roughly 90 percent of cases since the agency mandated mass detention. Ten thousand rulings and counting. That’s one hell of a losing streak.
