👋 This is your weekly recap when it comes to all things NDTC!
Check out our upcoming events and find more at traindemocrats.org
On a Sunday night in 2024, more than 40,000 Black women gathered on Zoom to raise $1.5 million in 3 hours for the first Black woman on the top of the ticket: Vice President Kamala Harris. That is the kind of mobilizing power Black women in Democratic fundraising can offer and one of the many reasons why we’re proud to celebrate them with our friends at Higher Heights on February 20th.
Join us at 1 PM EST on February 20th to ask some powerhouse fundraisers your questions. Three we plan to ask:
- What was it like to raise historic sums of money for Kamala Harris?
- How can Democrats encourage a new generation of Black women leaders to take the baton and build the pipeline of fundraisers, movement makers, and legislators nationwide?
- I’m running for office for the first time. Am I raising enough money the right way?

What’s On Our Newsfeeds

Why this story is important:
It’s one of the most hopeful things in our feed because it reminds us of how the Trump administration keeps stepping on a rake. Winning, and one of the thinnest majorities in US history is the opposite of anything like a mandate. It’s why Mr. Trump is acting like a king because he’s too weak to govern like a president. Pushing back is NOT impossible.

Why this story is important:
The Department of Education plays a crucial role in making education access and quality more equitable for students nationwide. Funding for public schools primarily falls to local and state governments, but federal funds work to fill the gaps.

Why this story is important:
Elon Musk unleashed more chaos and destruction against USAID: a critical force for U.S. foreign policy, disease control and democratic development. The agency was in the midst of a probe into the billionaire’s equipment at the time of Musk’s assault.

Why this story is important:
Elon Musk’s takeover of federal government infrastructure is ongoing, and at the center of things is a coterie of engineers who are barely out of—and in at least one case, purportedly still in—college.

Why this story is important:
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., despite his long history of opposing widely accepted vaccines, is a step closer to leading the nation’s health agencies. It’s particularly concerning as the avian flu has now been detected in dairy cattle.
