National Democratic Training TLDR – February 13, 2025

Posted on February 13, 2025

👋 This is your weekly recap when it comes to all things NDTC!
Check out our upcoming events and find more at traindemocrats.org

Did you know that primaries are already happening? Oklahoma and Wisconsin field organizers are already mobilizing voter turnout, supporting local Democratic candidates and ensuring the machine of democracy works.

Defending democracy is no longer just something to slap on a yard sign — NDTC is proud to support the impatient voices and opposition demanding accountability and transparency from the current administration and for all Americans. We expand the map by providing Democratic leaders the tools they need to run and win anywhere, especially red districts and seats that have previously never had a Democratic candidate.

Is running for office right for you? We can help you make the decision and prepare you to run.

Oklahoma and Wisconsin Democrats, we’re rooting for you!

Everyone else — have you thought about running for office yet?

Why this story is important:

As the highest-ranking transgender elected official in the country, Rep. McBride is being asked to speak on behalf of all trans Americans. Every day, she navigates how to govern effectively alongside colleagues who don’t recognize her for who she is, as more and more trans people fear for their rights — and are looking to her to speak out.

Why this story is important:

Now the head of the Office of Management and Budget – the powerful agency in the executive branch that oversees federal agencies and administers the budget – noted Christian Nationalist, Russell Vought is positioned to help Donald Trump traumatize and demoralize the federal workforce.

Why this story is important:

Congress intentionally did not grant the president the power to fire FEC commissioners. According to federal law, the process to replace a commissioner requires presidential nomination and Senate confirmation. The voluntary surrender of the public’s power is how autocracies are built.

Why this story is important:

ProPublica has confirmed the names and roles of more than 30 Musk-affiliated staffers who are helping the world’s richest man dismantle or downsize federal agencies one by one. Elections have consequences, and many of these staffers have no experience with government. Some would likely not pass the most basic security clearance interviews.

Oppose Linda McMahon as Sec. of Education

Linda McMahon is a billionaire who spent most of her career as CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, and when she did spend any of her time working on education—it was to undermine public schools.
