Dear MoveOn member,

Disturbing new reports surfaced allegations that Donald Trump has had private conversations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in order to dissuade a ceasefire agreement and influence the presidential elections. If these allegations are true, this would be a major violation of the Logan Act, which prohibits negotiations between the U.S. and a foreign government by unauthorized civilians—which Trump is.

The Department of Justice needs to investigate these allegations NOW and file criminal charges against Trump immediately if found true. Will you sign the petition?

Two sources, who remain anonymous at this time, said they were briefed on the communications and that Trump spoke on the phone with Netanyahu and repeatedly advised against a ceasefire because it could “help the Harris campaign.”^1,2 Both Trump and Netanyahu have admitted to speaking on the phone but are denying the allegations.³

Netanyahu’s brutal bombardment of Palestine has only escalated. Devastatingly, more than 41,000 people have been killed, and countless more have been injured and are facing starvation.⁴ The situation is dire. We need every political leader to be working toward a permanent ceasefire now in order to stop any further loss of life.

It’s horrifying that Trump may have used his position and power to try to stall a ceasefire and interfere with negotiations for his own political gain. Sign the petition to demand the DOJ investigate these allegations NOW!

This wouldn’t be the first time Trump was accused of violating the Logan Act. He’s been accused of unauthorized communications with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and, during one of his rallies, he mentioned explicitly that they discussed plans to “negotiate a deal.”⁵ Trump also hosted Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at Mar-a-Lago and had private conversations with the leader.

And when Prime Minister Netanyahu was in the United States to address Congress, he also met Trump at Mar-a-Lago and talked directly with him about the election and the ongoing conflict, assuring him at one point that “We’ll get it taken care.”⁶

The Logan Act has been rarely enforced in U.S. history—but it has been evoked. Two people have had charges brought against them for violating the Logan Act in the history of our country.⁷

Trump could be the third.

We need the violence being waged against Palestinians to end. And we need there to be a pathway to peace. Any interference in negotiations or delays in striking a deal could result in more death, starvation, and devastation. We can’t allow Trump to meddle in foreign affairs and try to influence foreign leaders for his own benefit and gain.
