Dear MoveOn member,
The United Nations has just released an alarming 141-page report on climate change. It says that the world has missed our climate goals by failing to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above preindustrial times.1
That’s the target that was set in 2016, when 194 countries and the European Union signed the Paris Agreement, pledging to slow down global warming and prevent its most devastating effects.2
But the United States is no longer part of the fight against climate change. In January 2026, Donald Trump signed an executive order to withdraw from the global agreement.3
This is where we find ourselves today:
- Thanks to Trump, the United States is the only country to pull out of the Paris Agreement.4
- Meanwhile, the Trump administration has weakened domestic environmental policies. The U.S. is now the world’s leading producer and exporter of natural gas, a planet-warming fossil fuel, and one of three of the world’s largest emitters of greenhouse gases.5,6
- Now, the United Nations’ report says that the “best remaining option” is to limit global warming “overshoot” and try to eventually bring temperatures back down.The report makes it clear that “this is by no means an acceptable or preferred pathway.”7
The climate situation is dire, yet Trump and his administration refuse to admit it. Instead, they’re continuing to spend America’s money and resources on Trump’s war with Iran.8 War is a destructive force not just on human lives, but on our planet too. Weapons of war unleash toxic pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions.
Trump and his warhawk allies have got their priorities all wrong! The billions of U.S. dollars they’re spending on the war in Iran should be spent instead on transitioning the U.S. to clean energy and fighting global warming.
That’s exactly the message MoveOn is sending with our “Drop Global Temps Not Bombs” T-shirts. Especially when political powers conspire to choose warmongering over our and our planet’s well-being.
