If you’re reading this email and you don’t think an endorsement from Taylor Swift matters, here are a few stats to remember:

  • Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris on Instagram, where she has 283,000,000 followers. That’s right, 283 million.1
  • Within minutes of her endorsement post, it had gained more than 2 million likes, and now sits at almost 11 million.2
  • More than 405,000 people used her voter registration link in the first 24 hours after it was posted.3

In her endorsement, Taylor Swift said:

“I’m voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”4

She’s right. And she’s right to fear the misinformation that’s being pushed out by Donald Trump and his party with the intention to confuse and mislead voters. It’s up to all of us to go into the world to talk about what’s at stake: health care, climate justice, our freedoms, the future ahead of us and beyond.

Taylor Swift’s fan base consists mostly of 18- to 35-year-olds, which just so happens to overlap with the key voter demographic that MoveOn is laser-focused on turning out in this election. We call them “surge voters,” often younger voters who became active in politics after 2016 but have not voted consistently since. Data shows that they could be the difference between winning and losing this November, which is why MoveOn has set a goal of contacting 1.5 million surge voters in battleground states and districts before polls close on November 5!
