Dear MoveOn member,
We’re writing to you today on behalf of MoveOn’s entire staff team to share some reflections on this scary moment in our nation and an update on MoveOn’s next steps.
But first, we want to say thank you.
MoveOn is defined by our millions of members, and, now more than ever, we are so grateful that each and every one of you is in this fight with us.
Just as it has been for you, this has been an incredibly difficult year for our staff. MoveOn’s team is made up of a diverse patchwork of queer people, trans people, people of color, immigrants, people with disabilities, and more—all working hard to push back against Donald Trump’s authoritarian regime while facing the harsh realities in our communities day in and day out.
But we keep getting up every day to do this work because we know that this isn’t only about how we push back against or slow down Trump’s cruelty—it is how we defeat it once and for all. It is how we win and build a future that is more equitable, more just, and more sustainable than the flimsy artifice of fascism that Trump has attempted to lash together over the last few months.
The cracks are already beginning to show.
We went from 3 million people in the streets for the Hands Off! protests in April to 5 million for the first No Kings Day in June to 7 million in big cities, small towns, blue counties, and ruby-red districts earlier this month in the largest single day of political protest in U.S. history.
Democrats are winning special elections up and down the ballot and turning races that Republicans were winning by double digits into toss-ups.
And Trump’s approval ratings, especially on the economy, are tanking.
We are building the momentum that we need to finally sweep Trump’s MAGA movement into the dustbin of history, and MoveOn is ready to lead the way. But the reality is that as a grassroots organization, we are able to do this work only with the financial support of members like you, and we have seen a sharp downturn in our fundraising efforts over the last few weeks.
Our team is already hard at work putting together the plan for what we hope will be the largest midterm election campaign in our history, mobilizing millions of people for a historic blue wave that will put a real check on Trump’s abuses of power.
Our goal is to launch that plan early next year, but we have to make budgeting decisions in the next couple of weeks that will determine how big or small our program can be. And with just hours left in October, we still need to add 500 monthly donors to meet our goal.
If we go into November with a funding gap, we might be forced to scale down our program before it even gets off the ground. In a moment where so much is on the line, we cannot afford to cut back.
So we’re asking: Can you become a monthly donor before midnight to help us ensure we have the funding needed to go big with our 2026 election program?
No, I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.
We are so grateful for your steadfast support and partnership in this fight. Together, we are going to win.
Thanks for all you do.
–Katie, Alyssa, Cecilia, Julia, and the rest of the team
