Dear MoveOn member,
Did you hear the big news? The No Kings coalition has announced there will be a third No Kings Day!1
There couldn’t be a better time for another massive day of protest. Because our movement is booming and growing stronger every day.
Just look at the numbers.
In April: 3 million of us protested at 1,300 Hands Off! events.
In June: 5 million of us protested at 2,100 No Kings events.
And in October: 7 million of us protested at more than 2,700 No Kings events.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump is flailing on the economy, and his approval rating is in the gutter—only 37% of Americans approve of Trump.2
Everywhere, all over the country, people are coming together to state loudly and clearly: We will overcome tyranny.
And that’s so important, because one of the most powerful ways to beat back authoritarianism is through mass mobilization. Research shows that if just 3.5% of a country’s population mobilizes in a sustained way, they turn the tide against authoritarians.3
But we’re not quite there yet. During last month’s No Kings Day, 7 million of us protested. It was the largest protest in American history. But to meet the 3.5% rule, we need 4 million more people to join us—11 million total.
We’re almost there. And to help us get there, MoveOn and our partners will be coordinating a third No Kings Day in the coming months.
But massive and historic days of protest do not just happen overnight. The third No Kings day of action will take months to build and prepare for. It will take finding volunteer leaders in more communities across the country, consistent and sustained organizing to build community, skills, and leadership, recruiting new people into the progressive movement, and, as the day draws closer, recruiting, training, and supporting thousands of volunteer leaders all across the country.
And that work starts now.
MoveOn will continue dedicating our work, day in and day out, 24/7, to building this mass mobilization movement alongside a web of other allied organizations. But in these chilling times, we need your help to ensure we have the financial resources to turbocharge our organizing, community by community all across the country.
Will you start a monthly donation of $5 to MoveOn now to build and sustain the mass mobilization movement to stop Trump’s tyranny?
No, I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.
Kendall, you might be wondering: Can protests really make a difference?
The answer is a resounding “yes!” While protests aren’t enough to stop Trump’s tyranny on their own, they are an essential component. Here’s what mass mobilizations do:
- They change the narrative. When thousands show up in every corner of the country, we disrupt the Trump administration’s attempt to project inevitability and strength. We show that resistance isn’t fringe—it’s everywhere and it’s growing. As Robert Reich put it: “The Emperor has no clothes.”
- They bring new people into the movement. Events like this reach neighbors who aren’t yet engaged. They help people take that first step and connect with others in their community who are ready to act.
- They build courage. When people see so many others in the streets, it gives them permission to speak up in their own lives—with family, at work, in their communities. Courage truly is contagious. And right now, we need it spreading everywhere. They also protect our rights when we turn out in such large numbers and ensure we can continue to express our dissent amid authoritarian overreach.
- They give us renewed hope. Protests are filled with joy—music, dance, chants, speeches, and solidarity. When you see thousands of others who refuse to accept this as normal, you remember that change is possible and that together, we still have the power to shape what comes next.
That’s why grassroots organizing and mass movements matter so much. When millions of people gather on the same day, someone afraid will find courage. Someone alone will find community. Someone ready to give up will decide to keep going. And all of us will remember we’re capable of far more than Trump wants us to believe.
That’s how movements change history. And that’s why MoveOn is excited to help coordinate the next No Kings Day and to continue to build the progressive mass movement against authoritarianism.
But we cannot do it without you.
Will you start a monthly donation of $5 today to help MoveOn power our organizing that’s building the movement to stop Trump’s tyranny? It’s It’s going to take each and every one of us doing all that we can.
No, I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.
Thanks for all you do.
