As we look to the next four years under Donald Trump, one thing is certain: We need Democrats in Congress to show up in full force and unwaveringly resist Trump’s attacks on our democracy.
Trump and MAGA Republicans’ Project 2025 isn’t a vague “concept of a plan”—it’s a literal playbook for how they plan to ruthlessly govern our country and dismantle our democracy.
They’ve spelled out exactly how they want to use the first 180 days of Trump’s administration to end the independence of government agencies and roll back progress that’s been made on climate and LGBTQ+ rights, all while further restricting abortion access and immigration reform.
Kevin Roberts, president of the Heritage Foundation, said last week that “the entire conservative movement stands united behind [Trump],” and another one of Project 2025’s conservative backers, America First Policy Institute, celebrated the election results on social media, stating, “This victory is a mandate.”1 Project 2025 is no longer a potential threat. Trump’s most extreme base wants him to know that they are expecting him to deliver on his promise.
The country formed under Project 2025 would be unrecognizable. At least nine of the coalition groups behind it are SPLC-designated hate and antigovernment groups, including Alliance Defending Freedom, the Center for Immigration Studies, and Moms for Liberty.2 We can’t allow their hateful, backward vision for America to define the future of this country. We will fight back against Project 2025 every day of every year—and we need Congress to do the same.
Now more than ever, we need Democrats in Congress to do everything in their power to block the very worst of what’s to come under the Trump administration.
