Here’s what I know: Trump didn’t win in 2024 because America wanted what he was selling. He won because millions of voters who would have been with us stayed home.
Not because they love authoritarianism or billionaire tax cuts or the gutting of public services. But because too many Democratic candidates gave them no compelling reason to show up.
Cautious, corporate-friendly half-measures don’t inspire turnout. They kill it.
I’ve been saying this for years. The Democratic Party cannot keep taking Wall Street cash and Big Tech money and then wonder why working people don’t trust it.
MoveOn gets this.
And they have a compelling plan for victory. MoveOn’s in-house analysts spent the past year combing through the numbers from 2024. What they found should stop you cold. In 11 battleground congressional districts, the number of MoveOn members who skipped voting in 2024 exceeds the margin of victory needed to flip those seats in November.
These MoveOn members—people who sign petitions, call Congress, show up to No Kings protests—sat out the election. Not because they gave up on their values. But because the Democratic Party failed them. Our rigged economic system failed them. That’s an enormous difference. And it means MoveOn has a direct line to the very voters who will decide these races.

I also want to say something about the stakes, because I don’t think we should mince words.
What we are living through right now is not normal politics. Rent, groceries, healthcare, childcare—the basic costs of a decent life are crushing working families. And what do Republicans offer? Hundreds of billions in tax cuts for the ultrawealthy, blank checks for war with Iran and unmasked agents terrorizing our communities, and a $1.8 billion trust fund for January 6 rioters. That is not a governing agenda. That is a heist.
This is what unchecked power looks like. And the only thing that checks it is a Congress that doesn’t rubber-stamp it.
If Democrats win back the House this November, the era of Trump governing without accountability is over. We get subpoena power. We get a check on the cruelty and the corruption. We begin the hard work of rebuilding.
I have given a lot of my life to the belief that democracy can deliver for ordinary people—that government can be a force for good when it’s accountable to the people rather than to the powerful. MoveOn is fighting for that belief. Their plan is serious, their data is rigorous, and the moment we are in is as urgent as any I have seen.
