Today, MoveOn is making a very important announcement: We are launching our 2026 election program—a $27 million game plan designed to crush MAGA at the ballot box by huge margins, elect a wave of populist leaders, and win lasting political power to make life better and more affordable for working people.
We have learned our lesson from 2024. Running against Trump is not enough, and, as we have long argued, Democrats cannot continue taking corporate money, governing for the billionaires, and offering working families cautious half measures when the moment demands fury and vision.
As reported in Politico this afternoon, MoveOn is tossing out the old playbook and endorsing only candidates who will fight like hell to deliver for us, lower healthcare costs, and build an America we can afford.1 And we have a unique game plan—built over thousands of hours by organizing experts and seasoned data scientists—for winning. Our data and political teams have spent the last year analyzing, planning, and assessing just what it will take to build back the power we need to thwart Trump. As they analyzed what went wrong in 2024, one thing became crystal clear: Trump won the 2024 election because voters who usually vote Democratic didn’t turn out.2
Some were voters who felt left behind because they didn’t feel their lives would improve under Democratic or Republican governance. Others were highly engaged progressives who had lost hope and trust in Democrats’ ability to be a bold and effective voice for the people.
But we can turn this around. As our in-house data scientists pored over reams of datasets for thousands of hours, they found an absolutely shocking statistic: In 11 battleground districts, the number of MoveOn members who skipped out voting in 2024 exceeds the margin of victory needed to win these races in the 2026 midterms.
That is why our 2026 election program is centered around engaging, mobilizing, and turning out these exact voters—“the skippers”—who will make the difference this November.
And the skippers are reachable. Because they are MoveOn members, we are able to call and text them and to send mail or volunteers to their door. And equally important, at a time when trust in the media and institutions is historically low, they know us.
We’re also not throwing our money at big TV ad buys that most voters will tune out. Instead, we’re investing in trusted local content creators and deepening our member-to-member outreach—which the data shows are far more effective ways to reach voters than spending millions on TV, especially when that audience is dwindling.
MoveOn is uniquely positioned to reach the skippers. Because we’re not starting from scratch. They are MoveOn members and already have a relationship with the organization. Thanks to our year-round issue campaigning, MoveOn members who skipped voting in 2024 have been inspired to take action—signing petitions, making calls to Congress, attending No Kings protests, and more.
Now, the next step is to make sure they go out and vote this November. Because they are literally the voters who will make the difference between winning and losing.
