SIGN: Trump’s nominee—wellness influencer Casey Means—is not fit to be America’s top doctor!

Casey Means—a wellness influencer who never finished her medical residency training and whose medical license is inactive—is Donald Trump and RFK Jr.’s pick for surgeon general of the United States.1
This appointment is not only embarrassing, it’s reckless and irresponsible. That’s why health care advocates, people with serious medical conditions, and their loved ones are deeply concerned about the public health ramifications of appointing Means to this crucial position.
But we’re not the only ones sounding the alarm. Even Trump’s first surgeon general, Dr. Jerome Adams, says, “It is incomprehensible that the Senate is even considering a nominee for this role who lacks any active license and has never practiced unsupervised.”2
Means faces bipartisan backlash—meaning this is a nomination that we could successfully block. In order to advance, Means would likely need every Republican to vote yes—but some Republicans in Congress are undecided. It’s critical that every single senator hear from constituents that Means is too dangerous to appoint.
We’ve already felt the consequences of having unqualified, anti-science leaders in Congress. RFK Jr. has reduced the number of required immunizations for children from 17 to 11—creating a public safety concern for children and families across the country.3 And as RFK Jr. continues to push his anti-vaccination agenda, South Carolina is struggling with a measles outbreak—the worst spread since the early 1990s.
“We will see more outbreaks. We will see children missing school, parents missing work. We will see increased costs for those families whose children will get sick and develop complications and disability. Some of them will die,” warned Dr. Jana Shaw, an infectious disease specialist who has conducted research on vaccine hesitancy.4
We are already experiencing the ramifications of this administration’s reckless health and science policies. We can’t allow it to get worse under Means’s failed leadership. Will you sign the petition to say NO to her nomination?

Means has pushed an anti-science agenda that threatens America’s public health, going so far as to call birth control pills a “disrespect of life,” claim that IVF is “needless,” and question the need for infants to be vaccinated against hepatitis B.5,6
And that’s not all. During her Senate confirmation hearing, Means refused to commit to urging the public to get vaccinated for measles, flu, or whooping cough—despite the alarming spread of these preventable diseases among unvaccinated Americans under the Trump administration’s anti-vax agenda.7,8,9,10 The health of our families, children, and communities is on the line.
Means is a biotech industry insider with substantial wellness industry conflicts of interest. She also has a history of failing to disclose sponsorship relationships in social media posts promoting wellness products. Public Citizen found that she “failed to disclose her relationship 79 out of 140 (56%) times she promoted products from companies with which she has financial relationships.”11
An unqualified wellness influencer should never be leader of the U.S. Public Health Service.
