Dear MoveOn member,
Republican senators are planning to bring Trump’s budget reconciliation bill to a final vote in the next few days.
They are trying their best to ram through this legislation that would steal health care and food assistance away from millions and give handouts to the wealthy, all so Trump can sign it into law before July 4th. But it’s not proving as easy as they hoped.
Over the last few days, Senate Republicans have faced several setbacks to their proposed cuts:
- The Senate parliamentarian has ruled that some of the cuts cannot be passed through reconciliation,1
- Several GOP Senators have gone on record with concerns about the Medicaid cuts as they stand,2
- And voters are saying they disapprove of the Republican budget by massive margins in multiple recent polls.3
Our stories, our voices, and our work to keep the pressure on Congress are all having an impact. But with Republicans trying to jam this bill through as fast as possible, we need to keep going full speed ahead if we’re going to stop them from passing these cuts that would devastate families.
The Senate bill would steal health care and food assistance away from millions of Americans, in order to give away handouts to the wealthiest Americans. But we still have time to stop this devastating bill.
MoveOn, Working Families Power, Indivisible, and Community Change Action are hosting a series of phone banks next week in order to have 1 -on- 1 conversations with Medicaid recipients and urge them to contact their own senators directly. Sign up here and help make calls on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday!
Republicans in Congress want to make life even harder for working families in order to give their campaign donors huge tax breaks.
But the more they hear from their own constituents about what these cuts would mean to them, the more worried they are getting.
Let’s keep it up. RSVP here to join a upcoming phonebank next week and help connect Medicaid recipients with their own members of Congress.
Thanks for all you do.
