Move On – June 27, 2024

Posted on June 27, 2024

Dear MoveOn member,

According to the Pew Research Center, about one-third of people younger than 30 regularly get their news from TikTok.1

This is a big problem because, right now, MAGA is absolutely dominating on TikTok.

When Donald Trump joined TikTok in early June, he amassed 5 million followers within three days—14 times as many as President Joe Biden has.2 The most recent polling shows that support for President Biden among young voters is underwater and trending in the wrong direction.3

Polls this far out from Election Day are not necessarily indicative of the final outcome of the election, but we must not let this problem continue to grow. To help turn the tide, MoveOn has been working overtime to build a strong presence on social media, especially on TikTok.

We’re scaling up a team of social media influencers to spread the word to young people about Trump’s terrifying plans. And we’ve set a goal of recruiting 200 micro-influencers who have hundreds of millions of followers on social media sites where young people get their news and are already engaging on these issues. But we can do this only if we can raise the funds.

Will you start a $5 monthly donation to help MoveOn spread the truth about Trump and his MAGA agenda on TikTok and other sites where more than 30% of young people are getting their news? Your donation will power our efforts from today until Election Day.

Yes, I’ll chip in monthly.

No, I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.

Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich recently warned MoveOn members that in 2016, “Trump dominated on social media, progressives were slow to adapt … And, well, we all know the devastating results.”

To turn things around, Reich says that “progressives need many more voices with many more followers on TikTok, Discord, Instagram, and other social media.”

That’s where MoveOn comes in. We’re recruiting influential voices to speak out, and we’re collecting authentic videos from voters speaking from the heart about the issues they care about most and why voting is so crucial to those issues. This strategy is based on our powerful “Real Voter Voices” program, which helped make a decisive difference in past elections.

Progressives are starting to catch up on social media, including TikTok.4 This is crucial, especially now, when we sound the alarm about Project 2025—the right wing’s nearly 1,000-page blueprint for turning America into a fascist police state, by executive order and without an act of Congress, if Trump is reelected.5

But we need to do much more, and quickly. Your donation will help MoveOn inform young people about Project 2025 and Trump’s agenda on social media, via SMS, in digital ads, and more.

We need your help to sound the alarm, Kendall. Please start a monthly donation of $5, or whatever you can afford.

I’ll chip in monthly.

I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.

The reality is that, if Trump is elected, this is what we should expect:

  • The Department of Justice will no longer be independent—and there will be no one left to stop Trump from charging his political opponents with crimes.6
  • The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) efforts to curb the spread of disinformation, including Russian propaganda, will be shut down.7
  • The Insurrection Act will be used to shut down protests and to deploy red-state National Guard units against blue states—even over the objections of those states’ governors.8
  • Abortion will be banned nationwide using two approaches. First, through a radical right-wing interpretation of the Comstock Act, a long-dormant law from 1873; as one of Trump’s lawyers says, “We don’t need [Congress to pass] a federal ban when we have Comstock on the books.”9 And second, by reversing the FDA approval of medication abortion, which is safer than aspirin.10
  • Churches—not all religious institutions, but specifically Christian churches—would be exempt from any health requirements, including during a pandemic, and requiring higher pay from ALL employers on Sundays to discourage working on the Sabbath.11

When young voters hear about the nightmare that a second Trump presidency would bring, his popularity plummets.

The vast majority of Americans—and especially young people—are against Trump’s policies and the Project 2025 proposal when they learn what they actually mean.12

But we must reach young voters where they are—on sites like TikTok and Instagram. Recruiting and organizing 200 micro-influencers is a huge undertaking, and we can pull it off only if we know that MoveOn members will fund it. Which is why we’re asking you:

Click below to start a $5 monthly donation and help MoveOn spread the truth about Trump and Project 2025’s MAGA agenda on TikTok and other social media sites. Your ongoing support couldn’t be more critical.

I’ll chip in monthly.

I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.

If young voters understand where Trump actually stands, he’ll lose. Eighty-six percent of Americans support making IVF fully and freely available without government interference.13

Eighty percent support abortion rights.14 Seventy-six percent support LGBTQ+ protections.15 And 83% oppose Christian nationalism.16 In fact, once informed about Project 2025, the majority of voters oppose any candidate attached to the plan.17

But not enough young people are hearing what a Trump presidency would actually mean when they scroll on TikTok, because Trump and MAGA have way more followers and too much influence there. We’re aiming to change that with our micro-influencer program, but we can do that only with your support.

We need to reach young voters where they are. Please start a $5 monthly donation.

I’ll chip in monthly.

I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

Want to support MoveOn’s work? Voters just defied history and stopped a MAGA wave of extremism at the polls. But there is more work to do to end the filibuster, codify abortion rights into law, and defend our freedoms, our families, and our futures. We can accomplish all this and more, but only if we work together.

Will you chip in monthly to power our critical work?

Yes, I’ll chip in $5 a month.

Does the current water crisis in the Colorado River basin predict the future for Eastern Washington rivers?

    REGISTER HERE

Most experts agree that how our principal river systems are managed will tell the story. Water is essential for continued growth and economic success for the region, which is entering its third consecutive drought year. Reservoir storage in the Cascades is far below average with little sign of recovery.

The federal Bureau of Reclamation's latest water supply forecast says that irrigators in the Yakima Basin may receive less than half of their full entitlement this year. And it's not just Washington's eighty-billion-dollar agriculture industry that depends on water. The rivers provide water for our cities and industry, generate electricity, move all manner of commodities, and provide for our unique quality of life.

    Community Whistle Packaging & Training

    April 24, 2026  10:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Richland Public Library, 955 Northgate Dr, Richland, WA

Join our Indivisible Tri-Cities book and knitting club every month at the Richland Public Library for a warm and lively meetup. All readers and crafters are welcome!

📖Book choices include both fiction and nonfiction that are relevant to our goals of creating a just, inclusive, and equitable society for all. You do not have to read this month's book to join our meetup.

🧶Bring a craft to work on while we chat, or learn a new one from one of our members. You do not have to be a crafter to join our gathering.

👀There's no need to RSVP for a Stitch & Story Circle. This posting will be updated to indicate the exact day of the meetup and chosen book as soon as it's selected, so stay tuned!
