ICE agents are abducting people off the streets, immigration court, school campuses, and homes, all while masked, refusing to identify themselves, and unaccountable for their abuses. These are not lawful arrests. They are state-sanctioned abductions.
That’s why Senators Alex Padilla and Cory Booker introduced the VISIBLE Act, which would require ICE and other immigration agents to clearly display their name and badge, ban nonmedical face coverings, and create accountability for violations.1
Kendall, we need your voice to help bring this bill to a vote. Join Senator Padilla at MoveOn’s phone bank this Monday, July 28 at 6 p.m. ET. We’ll be calling fellow MoveOn members in key states and urging them to contact their senators to demand they bring the VISIBLE Act to a vote. You can RSVP by clicking here!
When ICE agents operate in plain clothes and without visible ID, they create the perfect conditions for covered-up abuse. Since Trump took office, there have been disturbing reports of bad actors impersonating ICE agents to kidnap, rob, and sexually assault immigrant women.2 This anonymity puts everyone at risk, and the danger grows by the day under Trump’s mass deportation agenda.
While these impersonators are horrifying, so are the real ICE agents who continue to detain our neighbors without due process, separate families, and terrorize our communities without accountability. The danger created when immigration enforcement operates in secrecy and without oversight has no place in our communities.
Congress has the power to stop this. That’s why we need the VISIBLE Act to force ICE out of the shadows, requiring agents to show ID, banning face coverings, and finally creating real accountability for abuse. Will you join our phone bank this Monday at 6 p.m. ET to mobilize MoveOn members in key states to demand their senators bring the VISIBLE Act to a vote?
Thanks for all you do.
