On Thursday, Donald Trump signed a “Presidential Memorandum” directing his attorney general to investigate ActBlue, the grassroots fundraising platform MoveOn uses to fund our work. This is the latest example of political retribution by the Trump administration and a brazen attempt to deprive MoveOn members and tens of millions of other Americans of the ability to make their voices heard by chipping in $5, $10, or $20 to the causes they care about.1
We will not be silenced and MoveOn is ready to lead in this moment. But we need you with us. Will you defy Trump’s efforts to shut down our work by starting a $5 monthly donation to power and sustain our work?

As an independent, grassroots progressive organization, MoveOn is funded by hundreds of thousands of members like you chipping in what they can. Most of those donations are processed by ActBlue, a safe, secure, and easy-to-navigate platform for regular folks looking to participate in our democracy.
Trump, on the other hand, relies on donations made behind closed doors by billionaires, corporations, and special interests to fund the work of the MAGA movement—because he knows just how unpopular his policies are with the rest of us.
Make no mistake: His memo is an authoritarian power grab designed to silence the voices of grassroots donors like you and financially strangle candidates and organizations that oppose him—including MoveOn.
While MoveOn is a distinct entity from ActBlue, we use ActBlue to process the millions of dollars of grassroots donations that members like you so generously give. Which makes ActBlue a central part of MoveOn’s technology infrastructure.
Kendall, we will not be intimidated. We will not back down. And we certainly will not allow Trump to silence your voices.
But, as today’s memo reminds us, Trump will continue to throw more and more obstacles in our way in an effort to pull our focus and resources away from the critical work we do every day to put a stop to his cruel and hateful agenda. Which means we need the financial resources to be ready to react in moments like this without pulling back on any campaigning work to protect Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, or the fundamental freedoms that Trump and his administration are attempting to rip away from us.
In these uncertain times, will you please start a monthly $5 donation to provide us with some financial stability as we navigate Trump’s assault on the grassroots movement we are building to stop his agenda in its tracks? As we face an authoritarian regime in the White House, having a robust progressive movement couldn’t be more important.
