Dear Friend,
Mother’s Day may be over, but just like parenting and caregiving, our mission to make Washington a place where moms and families can thrive marches forward all 365 days of the year. And right now, our beloved Paid Family & Medical Leave (PFML) program needs our help!
Here’s the situation: Claims have doubled in just four years because the demand for PFML is real and the impact is life-changing—but that growth means the program is on track to run out of money by 2030. Instead of finding sustainable revenue to keep up with that demand, some lawmakers are proposing cutting benefits. That’s the wrong answer!
Being there for our families and ourselves shouldn’t be a financial gamble. Whether it’s recovering from childbirth, managing a serious mental health issue, or caring for a loved one with cancer,
Washingtonians deserve the security of knowing PFML will be there when they need it most. We want our leaders to double down on their commitment to PFML by focusing on sustainable funding solutions that don’t threaten current benefits.
Moms and caregivers across Washington have worked too hard and fought too long to let this program be scaled back. Let’s make sure every family—today and for generations to come—gets the support they need when life’s biggest moments arrive.
With hope and solidarity,
– Lauren, Sara, Olivia, Maricela, and everyone at MomsRising
