Every time we check out at the grocery store, open a utility bill, fill the gas tank, pay for health care and child care, or even look at our own impossible calendars, we feel it: Moms are being squeezed to the breaking point.
>Here’s the weird thing. Well, maybe not so weird. History shows us that building power for much-needed solutions is often created one conversation at a time.
Here’s how you can power-up while drinking some “Moms Feel the Squeeze” lemonade:
Just invite a couple of friends over, pour some lemonade, and feel the power grow! When you sign up for info, we’ll email you a toolkit that includes options for power-building activities like the following:
- Share Your Lemons: Grab a lemonade and have a chat about the annoying “cost shocker” squeezes everyone is facing this year.
- Write a “Lemonade Letter” to Congress: Pass around blank sheets of paper and write a quick, hand-written note to your member of Congress about how the squeeze is impacting your life. Snap a photo of the letter and send it to us—we’ll personally deliver it to Capitol Hill! (Bonus points if you or your kids draw a lemon on the letter!)
- Main Squeeze Trivia: Want some laughs? Engage your group in a quick trivia game (we’ll provide the questions and answers!).
- Get Out the Vote: Get ready to help get out the vote!

We can’t make lemonade out of this total lemon of an affordability crisis; but we can work together to fix it. And all of us are needed because the affordability crisis is all too real:
- Child care costs more than college.
- Less than half of Americans can afford health care.
- We are one of only 6 nations on planet earth without paid family and medical leave.
- Elder care, disability care, home- and community-based services are too often out of reach.
- Care workers aren’t paid living wages.
Moms are beyond squished. But it doesn’t have to be this way!!
One glass of lemonade at a time, we can build power to move our country in a better, more affordable direction simply by having fun, sipping lemonade with a friend or two, sharing how we’re each squished by the high costs of, well, everything. And maybe even writing a postcard to Congress telling them to get their priorities in order.
While this is a big moment to make our voices heard, it’s also an essential time to come together with friends and neighbors. Our communities are what sustain us and propel us forward during times like these.
History shows what we all know in our hearts: When moms come together, we move mountains. You don’t need a fancy setup or a giant crowd—just a pitcher of lemonade, a couple of friends, and the passion to open avenues for families to thrive. You are a crucial part of this movement, and together, we are going to move forward the solutions we all need.
