Maria’s opponent, longtime Republican State Senator Curtis King, is out of step with the needs of his constituents.
Last week, in an exclusive interview granted to Seattle radio station KUOW, King announced his strategy to fix potential holes in the state transportation budget: take away millions of dollars of money designated to support K-12 education, affordable health care, public safety, and behavioral and mental health services.
If the Climate Commitment Act is repealed, King plans to “move sales tax money from cars and trucks into the transportation budget. Right now, those tax dollars help fund schools, safety, and health programs.” King’s plan would be disastrous for the Yakima Valley and the 14th Legislative District, cutting funds from critical Yakima public institutions to fund, among other projects, Western Washington’s Washington State Ferries agency and repairs on Interstate 5.Unlike the 14th district’s current State Senator, Maria will prioritize the issues that Yakima Valley residents care about: quality education, affordable health care, and safe communities.
Maria is from this community: she grew up in Yakima, and she has lived in Yakima for most of her life. Throughout the campaign, Maria and her team have knocked on more than 20,000 doors across the district. After months of conversations with constituents and years of lived experience in this community, she is familiar with the issues the community wants to address, and she is ready to fight for Central Washington in Olympia.
Maria is running for State Senate to make sure Central Washington values have a voice in Olympia. Will you help us support Maria’s campaign and vision for the future with a contribution today?
