Did you see the news? On Thursday, Maria held a press conference calling out her opponent, Republican Senator Curtis King, for refusing to participate in a League of Women Voters candidate forum.
Here’s what she said:
“The candidate forums that the League of Women Voters put on
are a public service, and they are one of the most important ways
for voters to hear where their candidates stand. Without forums
like this, candidates, especially incumbents taking special
interest money, can hide behind their mailers and their ads
without their ideas being challenged. Participating in events
like this used to be regular for Senator Curtis King,
until he met me.”
King’s refusal to appear in front of voters with Maria at an event hosted by the League of Women Voters of Benton and Franklin Counties is part of a troubling trend. Since the 14th Legislative District changed in redistricting to welcome new voters unfamiliar to King, he has been difficult to find in the district by constituents hoping to hear from him about his ideas and plans.

Meanwhile, Maria has embraced opportunities for voters to hear from both candidates, and is always open to finding a new date if the two candidates’ schedules don’t align. Not only that, but throughout the campaign, Maria and her team have knocked on more than 20,000 doors across the district. Maria is in touch with the needs of Central Washington residents, and she has made herself available to her potential constituents.
Thank you for your consideration,
