Hello friend,
With every vote now counted in our race for State Senate, we made history together in the new 14th District. While we did not achieve the outcome we hoped for, coming up just 1,219 votes short, securing 48.1% of the vote, we did something remarkable: we won Franklin and Yakima counties—an incredible achievement for a first-time candidate. Running against a 17-year incumbent was always going to be a tough challenge, but I am so proud of the campaign we ran and everything we accomplished in ten short months.
Thanks to your support, we built one of the strongest grassroots campaigns Central Washington has seen in recent history! Our team knocked on 37,893 doors and made 13,258 calls. We raised over $600,000 from more than 1,500 donors, making us the highest-raising Democratic legislative campaign in Washington this year. Not only that, but we stayed true to our values. We ran a clean, honest campaign rooted in the strength of our community and the belief that integrity matters.
Along the way, I had the honor of meeting families like my own, who came to this country searching for the American Dream and a better life for their children. I met single parents and working families who face tough financial decisions, but continue to persevere and work hard. I met little kids who welcomed me with hugs, smiles, and young adults who asked tough questions about our future. I spoke with veterans and seniors who shared their proudest memories and their hopes for a brighter tomorrow. Your stories inspire me, and your resilience reminds me why this work matters.
I want to extend a huge thank you to you! To my family—thank you for being my biggest cheerleaders and for feeding me during these months of full-time campaigning. To my incredible campaign team—thank you for your tireless work and believing in our campaign. To my volunteers and donors—thank you for investing in our campaign. A special shoutout to Chelsea and Ana—thank you for running to represent our community, it’s no easy task.
This campaign was just one step in the ongoing fight for representation and a better future for Central Washington. While I am still considering what is next for me, my commitment to this community remains. I will continue to find ways to serve and make a difference.
Forward,
Maria
