Growing up in Yakima, my first “official” job was at our local frozen yogurt shop. But before that, I spent weekends and summers helping my parents while they worked in the fields because they didn’t have access to affordable and reliable childcare.
I remember running around in the orchards, carrying water jugs and helping pick the low-hanging fruit (apples, cherries, or pears), or trying to sleep on the wooden bins because my parents couldn’t leave me alone in the car. My parents would wake up early and start picking as soon as the sun rose to maximize their time before it became too hot to continue. They instilled in me the values of hard work, perseverance, and determination as they worked tirelessly to provide for our family. These are the values that have grounded and inspired my work.
I am proud of where I come from and it informs the type of campaign we are running—a grassroots campaign whose success will depend on every donation, regardless of size. I am incredibly proud to say that we’ve received donations from over 300 individuals thus far, making it the most successful fundraising program by a Democratic Senate Candidate in the 14th district in recent history. And this is just the beginning.
On the other hand, the current Republican incumbent Senator has already received over $100,000 in special interest money from businesses and PACs this election cycle! I will always be accountable to the people of the 14th District, not any outside special interests. Will you make a contribution today to help our grassroots team get our message out?

If you have already donated to our campaign or don’t have the means to do so today, I encourage you to tell your friends and family about my campaign. We have an opportunity to make history in this race, and I hope you will help us in achieving that goal. The 14th District is ready to have a voice that represents all of us, and I would be honored to be that voice.
With gratitude,
Maria
