Some weeks, gun violence is everywhere — in the headlines, on your feed, impossible to look away from.
And then the news cycle moves on.
The shooting that stopped the country last week becomes a footnote. The community still picking up the pieces disappears from the front page. The conversation that felt urgent on Monday is gone by Friday.
But the people living with it? They don’t get to move on.
Neither do we.
This is the part of the work that doesn’t trend. The grief that doesn’t go viral. The organizing that happens in church basements and community centers long after the cameras have left. The young people who are still showing up — still knocking doors, still telling their stories, still demanding a world that doesn’t require them to be this brave — even when nobody is watching.
We won’t pretend it’s easy to stay inspired in the face of relentless tragedy. There are days when the news is almost too heavy to carry. When another shooting happens and the familiar exhaustion sets in — the kind that makes you wonder if anything will ever really change.
But then we look at what’s actually happening on the ground.
We see eight March Forward Fellows in Washington, DC spending a weekend learning to turn their pain into power. We see libraries across the country handing out free gun locks to anyone who walks through the door. We see Chicago becoming the first major city to establish a formal office dedicated to gun violence prevention. We see a tip, a screenshot, a student who spoke up — and a shooting that never happened.
Change is happening. It’s just not always loud about it.
Staying in this fight, through the headlines and beyond them, takes resources. It takes people who refuse to look away even when the rest of the world does.
We’re still here. We’ll still be here tomorrow. And we’re so grateful you are too.
With love and resolve,
