This one hurts.
Though democracy has played out today, it’s clear that we are a bitterly and dangerously divided country.
Donald Trump’s return to the White House brings us to the brink of fascism, and threatens the fragile progress we’ve made to protect children and young people from the scourge of gun violence.
But let us be clear: while we accept that the election has played out, we will NEVER accept Trump’s attacks on our lives. Trump is a real danger, but nothing is set in stone. We are stronger than their hatred. We will fight for our democracy and fight for our freedoms with every fiber of our being.
Trump has made clear he intends to steamroll over the democratic process — and our fundamental right to not be shot — in order to bend to special interests like the gun lobby. We understand the danger. Our lives and our entire futures are at stake. But we are ready to fight back.
We’ve already laid the groundwork for that: We reached over a million youth voters this year knocking on doors, making calls, and running digital ads because we know how important it is to bring young people to the table.
Since 2018, we have voted in droves and broken countless records. Gun deaths finally trended down this year not because it was inevitable, but because we spent years organizing and fighting.
So, the work’s not over. Far from it. This stings and it’s a setback — but our voices are needed now more than ever.
Today, we grieve. But tomorrow, we fight. When you’re ready, we’ll be here.
