On May 23rd, ABC news reporter Selina Wang was standing on the White House North Lawn, recording a quick video on her phone.
Then the peace was shattered.
“It sounded like dozens of gunshots,” she reported. “We were told to sprint to the press briefing room…”
Think about that for a second. The White House. Arguably, one of the most heavily fortified, secure buildings on the entire planet. And yet, gun violence found its way right to the front door.
It proves what youth organizers and survivors have been saying for years: Without a massive cultural and political shift, absolutely nowhere is safe. Not our schools, not our grocery stores, not our neighborhoods, and not even the president’s lawn.
We are living through a second Trump administration, and we already see the corporate gun lobby trying to roll back the progress we’ve fought so hard for. But we’re not giving up. MFOL was founded during Trump’s first term. We built a massive, youth-led, disruptive movement out of pure grief, and we won major victories then. We can and will do it again.
People are tired of just being angry. We want a breath of fresh air. We want to celebrate wins again. But to get there, we need real accountability from our leaders and a complete culture shift around guns in America.
We don’t have high-priced lobbyists to help us accomplish that, we have you.
Thank you for standing with us in this fight,
