Seven years ago today, a horrific act of anti-Latino violence took 23 lives and wounded 22 others at a Walmart in El Paso.
Tonight, the Star on the Mountain in El Paso will flash 23 times in their honor. Porches and windows across the Borderland will glow orange with light. Communities will gather at the Healing Garden to say their names, hold space for survivors, and comfort families who carry an unimaginable weight.
Seven years can feel like a lifetime, yet for the loved ones of those lost, the pain of August 3 remains sharp. But if El Paso has taught us anything over these years, it is this: hate and gun violence will never have the last word.
What emerged from that dark day was an unshakable spirit of unity, love, and resilience.
At March for Our Lives, we carry that same spirit into every room, every rally, and every organizing meeting across the country. We are a youth-led movement because we refuse to let the next generation grow up in fear. We know people are exhausted by anger — and while our grief is deep, our drive is fueled by hope, hope that a safer world is possible. Hope that through relentless youth advocacy, culture shifts, and community power, we will build a future free from gun violence.
Every dollar powers our grassroots programs, builds resources for high school and college activists, and ensures that when young people demand change, their voices cannot be ignored.
