A gun lobby group, Firearms Policy Coalition, recently launched a fundraising campaign in opposition to…my birthday.
Their email told supporters they could give me “the middle finger” by donating to them. They even offered donors a chance to win a shotgun they claimed would “terrify David if he unwrapped it.”
That’s apparently what passes for strategy when your movement is running out of ideas – and supporters.
While they were busy obsessing over me, their own fundraising has reportedly been collapsing. According to The Trace, revenue from membership dues and contributions dropped from $8.1 million to $4.1 million in just one year.
That is… a pretty dramatic falloff.
Turns out most people don’t want to donate to organizations built on cruelty and harassment campaigns against school shooting survivors.
I’ve spent the years since Parkland fighting so fewer young people have to experience what my classmates and I did. They’ve spent those same years doing weird birthday-themed stunts and failing to stay relevant.
My birthday was a couple weeks ago, but I still want to ask:
Thanks for always having my back (and for being significantly less weird than these people).
