Since January, the Trump administration has been gutting the programs that help us understand and prevent gun violence.
In the name of “government efficiency,” they shut down programs that helped local law enforcement recognize threats and prevent mass shootings. They erased databases tracking domestic terror and targeted violence — leaving communities without the critical information they need to stay safe.
Now, even at the state level, critical work is under threat.
In New Jersey, Governor Phil Murphy has proposed slashing $1 million from the New Jersey Gun Violence Research Center at Rutgers University — a cut that would wipe out a third of the center’s budget and cripple its lifesaving work.
This center is one of only a handful of state-funded hubs advancing real solutions to gun violence, researching topics like safe storage and community violence interventions.
Without this research, prevention becomes guesswork, and more lives are put at risk.
At March For Our Lives, we believe that preventing violence must be at the heart of public safety. It starts with research, early intervention, and understanding the roots of violence before tragedy strikes.
We are organizing to protect that work, and demanding a future where every community has the tools they need to stay safe.
Will you chip in today to help us keep building a future free from gun violence?
Thank you for your continued support.
