Leaders We Deserve – October 2, 2026

Posted on October 2, 2026

Republicans are pouring millions into races up and down the ballot, from national to local levels. Because they know their time in power is coming to an end.

But in order to secure state power, our candidates in critical Red-to-Blue races need all the support they can get. With the right resources behind young leaders who refuse to be bought by corporate interests or right wing billionaire donors, and a message that truly connects with working people’s priorities, we can flip these seats.

That’s exactly why our Red-to-Blue Fund exists — to empower bold, young candidates competing in the most critical districts across the country.

Pitch in $25 now to power our Red-to-Blue Fund and fuel the final stretch for our endorsed candidates fighting to flip these seats blue.

Donate $25 »

In a must-win election year, these are the races that are essential to break GOP supermajorities and flip state legislatures. Here are a few of the candidates leading that fight:

⭐Cat Clayton for Missouri, HD-105 ⭐️

⭐Claire Heinrich for Missouri, HD-110 ⭐

⭐ Leila Staton for Iowa, HD-54 ⭐

⭐ Nabeela Syed for Illinois, SD-26 ⭐️

⭐ Trevor Jung for Wisconsin, SD-21 ⭐

Cat Clayton is a software engineer who has built her career around solving complex issues through collaborative problem solving and careful analysis, and she hopes to bring those skills to MO District 105. She’s tired of watching politicians overturn the will of the people and watching division and misinformation take priority over community good.

The Missouri House is currently in a GOP supermajority. Cat is running to defeat Republican incumbent Colin Wellenkamp and restore balance and accountability to the state house. Cat hopes to bring common sense, compassion, and respect back into government, but she needs your support to help flip this seat.

Donate $25 »

Claire Heinrich was compelled to run for office after watching her representatives ignore constituents and overturn the will of voters. She currently works for a St. Louis nonprofit that teaches middle- and high-school students about active citizenship and problem solving. Claire is driven by her commitment to building stronger communities, and in the Missouri House, she will advocate for investing in public education, infrastructure, and bringing true representation to her constituents.

Claire’s Republican opponent, Niles Stephens, is endorsed by the NRA and MO Right to Live, an anti-choice PAC. And he has aided in ending DEI programs and health education programs in public schools. It is critical that we flip this seat blue. Claire believes that public service should be about listening, showing up, and doing the work, and she needs your help to bring that passion to MO HD-110.

Donate $25 »

At just 22, Leila Staton is the founder of a local advocacy organization that focuses on civic education and engagement. She’s been a dedicated public servant since childhood, and hopes to take that service to the next level by flipping Iowa’s House District 54. Leila is fighting for a government that puts people over profits, community over corporations, and truth over power.

Joshua Meggers is the Republican incumbent in the district. Leila needs your support to flip this seat blue and advocate for public education, clean water, expanding healthcare, and protecting family farms in Iowa’s 54th State House District.

Donate $25 »

Nabeela Syed made history as the youngest member elected to the Illinois legislature, and is a current member of the Illinois State House with the drive to continue her work in the State Senate. In the State House, she has passed legislation to cap prescription drug prices, expand breast cancer screening, increase voter accessibility for young people, and secured paid leave for organ donors. Fun fact, Nabeela was the first state legislative candidate I ever campaigned for! I was in college at the time, and years later when we started Leaders We Deserve, Nabeela was one of the inspirations for the organization.

The seat is currently held by Republican Darby Hills and Nabeela needs support to flip this seat. She’s already proven her commitment to fighting and advocating for her community, and is ready to continue being a hardworking and authentic voice in the State Senate.

Donate $25 »

Trevor Jung currently serves as the City of Racine’s Director of Transit and Mobility, and he’s ready to continue delivering for Wisconsin in the State Senate. He’ll fight to lower costs while raising incomes, provide protections from data center costs, support Veteran programs, and hold Big Tech and Social Media companies accountable.

This seat is currently held by a Republican, and Jim Croft is running to keep it red. So Trevor needs your support to flip this seat and continue making families, neighbors, and communities the priority. This race is especially important to breaking the Republican majority in the State Senate to ensure Wisconsin isn’t the next stop on the GOP’s gerrymandering campaign.

Donate $25 »

Flipping these red seats blue is absolutely critical to building state legislative power across Missouri, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois. But these are the kind of bold progressive candidates right-wing billionaires and the corporate machine will come after. That’s why I’m asking for your support today — we need grassroots supporters like you showing up to have these leaders’ backs.

Will you make a $25 contribution to our Red to Blue Fund today?

Join us for a Day of Action in the Tri-Cities with John Duresky for Congress for door knocking and community.

Ballots will be arriving to voters next month and the conversations we have with our neighbors will make a difference.

Whether you've knocked thousands of doors or this would be your very first time, we'd love to have you on the team. Training, materials, and turf in both Franklin and Benton Counties will be provided. Sign up here, and choose your dates to canvass: https://forms.gle/BxbrhVigGB8Y6Y9X9
