Major news: Christian Menefee came in first place in a crowded 16-person race on Tuesday night.
Because when voters see a leader who actually shows up for them by suing people like Trump, corporate polluters, and price gougers, they respond. Voters want fighters, not folders.
But we can’t celebrate yet — his race isn’t over. Because no candidate cleared the 50% threshold, Christian is headed to a runoff, and the real work to win starts right now.
Christian has never backed down from a fight. Not when corporations polluted Black and Brown neighborhoods, not when Texas Republicans tried to overturn election results, and not when Trump tried to rip funding away from Houston. He stood up, took them to court, and won.
That’s who Christian is and why Houston showed up for him. And he’s not backing down from this runoff either. But to win, we need to double down right now.
We only have a short timeframe to raise funds and mobilize volunteers to drive voter turnout. In a runoff election, especially one in an off-year, turnout is everything — it will decide the outcome of this race.
And here’s the truth: Christian’s runoff opponent finished close behind and is nearly matching him in fundraising. The momentum from his first-place finish is real, but we can’t afford to slow down now.
Christian is this close to becoming Houston’s next representative in Congress and leading the fight for lasting change. We can’t drop the ball now. Thank you for helping him get 1st place on Tuesday — now let’s get him across the finish line. Christian has shown up for his constituents in Houston. He will show up for us in Congress, but right now he needs us to show up for him.
