I’m going to be straight with you.
The moment we’re in right now is unlike anything Leaders We Deserve has faced since we started our mission.
The Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act. Trump is waging an illegal war in Iran. Healthcare is out of reach for millions of people. Corporate landlords are gobbling up homes and pricing working families out of their neighborhoods. And many leaders in the Democratic Party are still figuring out if they’re willing to fight back with more than just a strongly worded letter.
Honestly, we don’t have the luxury to wait around for the rest of the Party to wake up. We have to start moving on the issues that matter to us most and electing the leaders who will get us there right now.
That’s why this is our biggest year yet. We’ll be backing the largest slate of candidates we’ve ever had. There are more races to fight ahead, and more opportunities to prove that bold, people-powered politics can win anywhere in this country.
The House majority is within reach. State legislatures are flippable. And what we do between now and November will determine whether we rise to meet this moment or let it slip through our fingers.
So here’s our plan for this cycle:
- Back the boldest, most fearless progressive candidates running for state legislatures and Congress across the country. People who come from the communities they’re fighting for, refuse corporate PAC money, and have the courage to do what’s right instead of what’s safe.
- Challenge asleep-at-the-wheel Democrats in safe blue seats who are failing to meet this moment in order to strengthen our Party. Voters deserve a Party that actually holds its leaders accountable and is willing to respond to the urgency of this moment with the moral clarity and vision for the future that it demands.
This plan works. We’ve already proven that, and taken home meaningful wins this cycle. But none of this work happens without resources. We don’t take a dime from corporate PACs or special interests. We don’t have the establishment funding machine behind us, or self interested mega donors writing us checks. We have you, and tens of thousands of people like you who truly believe in what we’re building.
So here’s what I’m asking:
If you’re in a position to give big — $500, $1,000, or more — now is the moment. Your support doesn’t just fund one candidate, it funds the infrastructure that finds them, supports their campaigns on a daily basis, and gets them across the finish line.
If you can give a little every month — $5, $25, $50 — we need you standing with us. Recurring donors are at the backbone of what we do. They’re the reason we can plan ahead, invest early, and show up for candidates when it counts the most.
If you can only give once — whatever you can afford — we appreciate that deeply. Every dollar is proof that this isn’t a movement bought and paid for by corporate PACs or special interests. It’s a people-powered movement, ready to win.
And if you can’t give anything right now — that’s okay. Not everyone is in a position to contribute money, and I completely understand that. What I’m asking for instead: Forward this email. Share what we’re doing on your social media. Talk to a friend or family member about Justin J. Pearson, Ruwa Romman, Christian Menefee, or any of the incredible candidates we’re backing this cycle. Bring someone else along with you in this fight.
