		We are proud to announce that the winner of the 2024 Norm and Shirley Miller Leadership award is….their son Andy Miller!Following in his parents’ footsteps, Andy lives the values of the Democratic Party.  For years we have known Andy as the only elected Democrat in southeastern Washington. It is fitting that we pay tribute to Andy with this special award as he continues to demonstrate his remarkable leadership skills in his retirement years.  As the Benton County Prosecutor for 36 years, Andy fought for victims rights, especially for vulnerable victims. He helped draft statewide protocols for child abuse investigations, helped institute a Washington State Court rule that prevents lawyers from using immigration status against witnesses and victims. And he developed our local Kids Haven, a child friendly place to interview children who may have been abused with immediate connection to counselors and advocates. Andy also led the effort to establish therapeutic courts such as a Drug Courts and Mental Health Courts that serve as a model for the rest of the state. 		"Since Bird’s announcement in late 2022 that he would run for the office, his candidacy has been called into question several times. In February, the Tri-City Herald first reported that Bird was arrested for felony gun theft after misplacing a law enforcement-issued revolver twice. Bird’s other known transgressions were recently posted on a website sponsored by opponents to his campaign, including a 2018 judgment against his construction company for deficiencies and defects that remained unpaid until November 2023 and liens totaling nearly $30,000 in unpaid child support.Bird was also recalled from the Richland School District in 2023, after he and other board members ignored COVID regulations."
