In just two short months, Washingtonians will vote on I-2109, which would eliminate the capital gains tax, slash billions in critical child care and education funding, and shift the tax burden onto low- and middle-income taxpayers. Join us at our Activist Briefing on Tuesday, September 10 to learn more about how you can help defeat I-2109!
Just yesterday, we joined the NO on I-2109 campaign at the new Tyee High School construction site in SeaTac, which is one of more than 170 school construction projects funded by the capital gains tax on the super-rich.
Former Tyee High School teacher Shawna Moore shared: “How was I supposed to conduct a PE class when the gym roof is leaking and my students were at risk of slipping and being injured during our activities? But projects like this one all across our state are threatened if Initiative 2109 passes and cuts that funding.”
Seeing the capital gains tax in action made it clearer than ever that we absolutely cannot let I-2109 pass in November. That’s why we’re hosting an Activist Briefing at 6pm on Tuesday, September 10, to share updates on the NO on I-2109 campaign, strategies for educating voters, and ways you can take action as the election approaches. RSVP now to join us!
Jurnee Robinson, a senior at Tyee High School, explained that she watched wealthier school districts get new schools long before hers did. She’ll have graduated by the time the new school is finished in 2025, but she’s excited that thanks to the capital gains tax, future students like her younger brother “will have the learning environment they deserve.”
I-2109 will harm future students, small businesses, working parents, taxpayers, child care providers, and all of us. These next two months are crucial – join us on Tuesday, September 10 to continue the fight!
