And we’ve made extraordinary progress in just those five years (see below!) But now, everything we’ve fought for is on the line.
Federal cuts are already impacting working Washingtonians, and while families struggle, some state leaders are already whispering about “belt-tightening” – cuts to education, health care and more.
That’s why we’re asking for your support of our Fight Back Fund, a rapid response effort to protect our progress and push for the next phase of tax fairness in 2026.
Together, we’ve made real progress. With your support, we’ve:
- Won the first progressive revenue measure in 30 years, passing and defending the Capital Gains excise tax.
- Closed tax loopholes for special interests and the wealthiest corporations.
- Advanced a first-in-the-nation wealth tax through one chamber of the Legislature, a major step toward lasting tax justice.
- Built a network of over 120,000 tax justice activists in every corner of the state.
That’s what people power can do. But the challenges working Washingtonians face in the coming year are profound:
- Congress and Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” (HR1) are slashing SNAP benefits and sending healthcare costs for Washington families into a death spiral.
- Across the country, we have seen the highest job loss numbers since 2003, and here in Washington state thousands of tech workers have been laid off.
