This weekend, it came to light that some proponents of the Millionaires Tax who had signed in PRO for the Senate hearing were fraudulently signed in CON for the House hearing. So we dug deeper.
We found more than 37,000 duplicated “Con” signatures on the legislative hearing lists, along with many others who were signed “Con” without their knowledge or consent.
We’re calling on Chief House Clerk Dean and the Attorney General Brown to launch an investigation.
The fraudulent sign-ins include Senator Victoria Hunt (LD-5), who is a sponsor of the Millionaires Tax, Former Congressman Derek Kilmer, SEIU 775 Secretary Treasurer Adam Glickman, and WEA President Larry Delaney.
Other names were signed more than 100 times, often in rapid succession. While some low-count duplicates might be common names (“John Smith”, for example) the frequency and high number of duplicates – some 50 or even 100 times – is extremely serious.
Opponents of the Millionaires Tax have been using “Con” sign-ins as a major talking point, even though multiple polls have shown that more than 60% of WA voters support the tax. The fraudulent sign-ins call into question just how broad the opposition to this tax actually is, who is behind the massive list padding, and why.
Read more about the suspicious signatures and hear from Senator Victoria Hunt and others who were fraudulently signed “Con” in our latest press release and today’s Seattle Times article.
Thank you for being a part of this fight for tax equity in Washington – and if you haven’t signed in PRO for the Tuesday morning Millionaires Tax House hearing, the sign in deadline is 7AM Tuesday, Feb 24 (that’s tomorrow)! Add your name now.
