A few days ago, I formally accepted the nomination for President of the United States at the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
First, I want to say thank you.
Thank you for making me your Democratic nominee.
Thank you for believing that the promise of America is possible for each and every one of us.
Thank you for always standing with Tim and me.
Like so many of you, I grew up with parents who worked hard in pursuit of the promise of America.
We were taught to see a world beyond just ourselves. To be conscious and compassionate about the struggles of all people. We were raised to believe public service is a noble cause and the fight for justice is everyone’s responsibility.
In fact, my mother used to say, “Don’t sit around and complain about things — do something.” She was saying, you have to get up and fight. And that is exactly what we are going to do for these next 72 days.
Our campaign is a fight for the future. And it is a fight for our freedom.
The freedom to vote;
The freedom to live safe from gun violence;
The freedom to love who you love openly and with pride;
And the freedom for a woman to make decisions about her own body.
Because we believe in the possibility of what our country can look like when we bring people together, not when we tear each other down. That is our America. That is the America we believe in.
It is going to take millions of individuals acting together to preserve the promise of America. So every action you take — whether it is donating for the first time, signing up to volunteer, or spreading our campaign’s message to your friends and neighbors — will help ensure that we have the power to defeat Donald Trump and keep our country moving forward.
