Republicans have put their vision for Washington on the ballot this year: Worse traffic. Shuttered childcare centers. Smokey skies and more wildfires. Forcing Seniors and their families into bankruptcy. These are just a few of the consequences of the four Republican initiatives on our ballots this year.
Millionaire hedge fund manager Brian Heywood has conspired with MAGA Party Chair Jim Walsh to give himself and his super-rich friends a massive tax cut and shift the bill for critical programs onto hard-working Washington families. Heywood and Walsh have been fighting to conceal information from voters about the devastating cuts everyday people would suffer if their initiatives pass because they know that’s how they can win.1 And polling shows that their tactics could work.2
Voters need to know the truth about the initiatives on their ballot. Our Progressive Voters Guide cuts through the disinformation to explain the consequences of these initiatives for our education, health care, and clean air and water. These initiatives are part of the MAGA agenda aimed directly at rolling back progressive wins we’ve achieved together. Here’s the initiatives and what they do:
- I-2109 repeals Washington state’s limited capital gains excise tax, slashing over $2.2 billion from public education, childcare, and early learning in the next 5 years
- I-2117 will lead to costly, unintended consequences by stripping billions from Washington’s transportation system while threatening our clean air and water.
- I-2124 will hurt women and increase our costs and medical debt by eliminating Washington’s long-term care insurance program for 3.9 million working Washingtonians.
- I-2066 would attack energy efficiency by repealing common sense protections, leaving us with higher energy costs and making our communities more vulnerable.
Unlike our opponents, we’re not funded by big corporations or out-of-state billionaires. Instead, we rely on thousands of Washingtonians chipping in an average of $27 online to bring the guide to as many potential progressive voters as possible.
