Washington is now ground zero for the right-wing backlash against progress. Three MAGA-inspired initiatives will be on your ballot in November and we are ALL IN to send them packing. Today, we’re helping launch the “No on Initiative 2109” campaign to prevent the repeal of the capital gains tax, but we’re up against deep-pocketed hedge fund manager and GOP mega-donor Brian Heywood, who’s bankrolling the other side.
Heywood has dumped nearly $7 million of his own money into these initiatives designed to give him and his wealthy friends a tax cut at the expense of our schools, seniors, and environment. I-2109 would slash $5 billion from our schools and child care programs just to give a massive tax cut to the wealthiest top 0.2% in our state. I-2117 repeals our policies to fight climate change and protect our air and water, and I-2124 bankrupts our state’s long-term care program.
We need to go toe-to-toe with Heywood’s hedge fund millions and Washington’s MAGA Republican party in this fight if we want to win. Our campaign will mobilize volunteers and organizations across Washington and leave no stone unturned to educate voters about the impacts of these initiatives. We’re supporting a coalition of progressive organizations, climate activists, students, seniors, health care providers, union members, parents, and teachers to stop these MAGA activists from rolling back our progress. Recent polling has made it clear that voters are motivated to oppose these measures when they learn how these initiatives benefit the wealthiest and most powerful while hurting working Washingtonians.
