Posted on August 3, 2022

****If you have not yet subscribed to the BPI Newsletter, sign up HERE****

Hello Democrats,

The summer days are heating up and so is election season – we are officially less than 100 days from Election Day! There is no better time to build community and strengthen our Democratic Infrastructure! This month’s newsletter includes an exciting training opportunity for youth organizers, an Activist Challenge highlighting one of the most effective voter contact tactics, and a Victory Vault Spotlight featuring Spanish language training resources!

Onward,

Best Practices Institute

TRAINING AND ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Youth Vote Training Series
The DNC is launching a youth virtual training series to prepare you with the skills and resources to organize your community ahead of the midterms! Sign Up Today!

Join us Wednesdays from 7-8 PM ET/4-5 PM PT! Sessions will deep dive into the building blocks of organizing and youth contact strategies. This series is for teens, college students, and folks 35 & under.

Training Sessions:

  • Wednesday, July 27: Organize to Win (watch recording here)
  • Wednesday, August 10: Digital and Relational Organizing
  • Wednesday, August 17: Campus Training
  • Wednesday, August 24: Beyond the Campus Training

Following the completion of the boot camp, attendees will be provided meaningful volunteer opportunities to make a difference in critical 2022 races in their communities & through the DNC’s Fair Shot Youth Program. Sign Up Here!

August Activist Challenge
Our monthly Activist Challenge is designed to build infrastructure for Democratic campaigns and organizations through grassroots engagement. Are you ready to accept the challenge, and help elect Democrats up and down the ballot?!

For this month’s Activist Challenge, we are spotlighting another skill-building training from our BPI Victory Vault that is core to our work as Democratic activists and volunteers. Learn more below!

  • Spotlight Training: Complete our “Personal Story Worksheet” to practice connecting with voters through storytelling.
    • To access this training, sign up for our BPI Victory Vault (new members added each Wednesday). If you are already a member and need a refresher on how to access the BPI Victory Vault, review our instructions.
    • Once in the Victory Vault, search for the PDF document, “Personal Story Worksheet”
  • Complete your personal story worksheet, and ask a friend to do the same. After both of you have completed the worksheet, each should practice delivering their personal story using the following scenarios:
    • Scenario 1: A volunteer using their personal story to persuade a voter to vote for their candidate or issue.
    • Scenario 2: A volunteer leading their personal story to recruit a new volunteer for their campaign or organization.
    • Remember: You should have multiple versions of your personal story. Think of various ways that you have been moved to action – prepare different versions of your story that describe those calls to action, and the decisions you made as a result. Every voter, volunteer, donor, etc., is different, and so are the issues they care about. By preparing several versions of your personal story, you are ready to connect with people based on the issues they care about most.

Once you’ve completed the challenge, take a selfie and create a post on social media that includes the following information:

  • Your state or territory
  • A brief explanation of how you completed this month’s challenge
  • The hashtag “#BPItraining”
  • And don’t forget to tag “@TheDemocrats”

BPI Spotlight Training

The Spotlight Training portion of the BPI Newsletter will highlight specific trainings that cover skills and concepts that are core to our work and ask you to revisit those trainings in our BPI Victory Vault. The trainings spotlighted in each month’s challenge will correlate to skill building that we believe is most relevant to the timeframe in which it is recommended, allowing participants to put their new knowledge to work right away.

After reviewing these “spotlight” trainings, we will encourage you to share and implement what you have learned within your local Democratic organizations and groups.

Spotlight Training: Campañas con Calidad (3C) Spanish Language Training
Use our Spanish Language Training Series to build and strengthen your local organizations to ensure that your teams remain accessible to all and ready to support Democratic candidates.

  • To access this training, sign up for our BPI Victory Vault (new members added each Wednesday). If you are already a member and need a refresher on how to access the BPI Victory Vault, review our instructions.
    • Once in the Victory Vault, find the resources by opening the desired webinar or slide deck.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic, support for public health policies has gradually declined. At the federal level certain policies and practices regarding vaccines have been thrown into question.

Vaccine proponents note the long-time and widespread benefits of the traditional MMR vaccine; vaccine skeptics generally insist it causes autism. Some say the approval process (Operation Warp Speed for Covid-19) was either rushed or rigged; others say the process was instrumental in reducing suffering and saved the lives of millions of people.

    Whistle Workshop & Learning Event

    December 12, 2025  10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Richland Public Library, Conf Room B, 955 Northgate Dr, Richland, WA

📣Our Voices United is sharing whistle safety packs as a simple, but powerful, grassroots tool that helps communities stay alert and protect each other. Indivisible Tri-Cities is joining in to help promote this campaign and support local outreach.

🧊These whistles create instant signals when ICE activity is nearby, helping neighbors gather quickly, record what's happening, and stand with anyone who may be approached. Join us this Friday to learn more!

🎶Different whistle patterns can signal urgent moments, like ICE being in the area or someone being detained. This gives those nearby a way to respond that's faster than social media and doesn't rely on being on your phone all the time.

🛡️Though it's a small tool, it helps combat quiet threats by creating visible community action, solidarity, and support. When we come together in efforts like this, our collective strength grows.

    December 12, 2025  6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Round Table Pizza3201 W Court St, Pasco

It's time for a holiday celebration. This month we'll meet at the Round Table Pizza on Court Street in Pasco. December 12 at 6pm. Come gather with like-minded folks and share some fellowship, food and beverages. As is our normal practice, Tri-City Democrats will order several pizzas to share. We'll have the donation box available for those who care to financially support the group. Some of our generous members are likely to purchase pitchers of beer to share. If you want the salad bar or soft drinks, you are on your own for those items.

At this writing, we do not have a planned program, but we will have 'Hate Has no Home Here' signs available. We are coming up on election time for the group - at our January meeting we'll plan to hold elections for our officers for 2026. Please let us know if you are interested in serving on the board!
