Hi all,

We wanted to start this update with important news about Senator Murray’s opponent. You may have seen Tiffany Smiley attempt a general election pivot to say she opposes a federal abortion ban. Today, this article was released showing just how misleading that line is. In 2017, when her Twitter account was for personal use, Smiley liked a tweet from Cathy McMorris Rodgers endorsing a federal abortion ban. We’d love your help getting this article circulated in your circles so folks understand exactly how Smiley is attempting to mislead Washington voters when it comes to what is at stake for choice this November.

In other campaign news, we are officially launching Senator Murray’s GOTV tour with the Coordinated this weekend. She will be making stops in Shelton, Gig Harbor, Port Townsend, Mt. Vernon, and Mill Creek. Please encourage folks to sign up to join us or for other shifts across the state. Our ground game is what is going to make the difference this final month.

And speaking of campaign events, folks in the Central Puget Sound should save the date for the morning of Saturday, October 22. Senator Elizabeth Warren will be here and she and Senator Murray will be headlining a GOTV event in Seattle to kick off the 18-day voting window! Stay tuned for additional details.

Next weekend will be a busy one for the campaign, as October 23 is the US Senate debate in Spokane. The event hosts—the Spokesman-Review and League of Women Voters—are collecting questions now through October 15th. We encourage you to submit your questions here. I’ll also give an early plug that we’ll be looking for supporters to help with rapid response to the debate on their own social media. If you’d like to help with this effort—please reach out.

In case it’s helpful, sharing some suggested draft Facebook and Instagram posts and tweets here that you’re free to use and repurpose when talking about Senator Murray’s race this week.

As always, please let me know if there are any questions or if you need anything further from the campaign!

OCTOBER 7, 2022

32 days until Election Day

Thank you Zillah Chamber of commerce for hosting the candidate forum on Wednesday night and Okanogan Grange Forum on Thursday. They were energized evenings of strong opinions and good discussion. I will keep showing up to these events. I believe that the way we get back on track is to talk to each other. Sometimes this is hard and sometimes we hear things we do not agree with, especially when we are living in a time where former President Trump set the stage that lying to the public is acceptable. But we are one nation, and it is up to every one of us to listen, to respect each other’s ideas, and it will be my job as a representative to listen to everyone and be that one voice in congress that represents us all.

I am putting my all into fighting for what is right and for what we deserve.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I really enjoy getting to connect on a personal level with the community! I often get asked the question: “Why do you want to serve – or continue serving – in the office you seek?” My background makes me qualified for this position. I have experienced difficult business and negotiating settings around the world. I am also from a 4th generation farming family, and it is in my blood. My background in tech makes me keenly aware of the importance of PNNL and Hanford’s contribution to our economy. Being raised in a union household gives me a clear understanding of the importance of having skilled labor that is well paid and provided for to do the best job.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Weekends of Action in Yakima and Tri-Cities were a success.

I appreciated everyone who came and did canvassing, phone banking, phone texting, and more with us. Our team is working hard every day, reaching out to ensure your voice and opinions are heard.

I received questions and concerns from many of you asking about different matters/issues in the District all the time. I stand by my vision and always want to improve a better living place for us all. It seems that Newhouse believes spending our tax dollars on infrastructure, energy independence, and bringing jobs back to this country is destroying our economy! What would you spend it on? We know you will spend it all, so why not on us?

My answer is always clear: I believe I have the right mindset to make changes and the right skills to deliver. I make sure that your trust and support will not be placed on the wrong person. I hope I have your vote.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

We hope you’ll join us, along with Washington Democrats, passionate volunteers, dirt road Democrats, and congressional candidates Marie Perez and Natasha Hil this Sunday 5pm to 8pm to turn out rural Democrats all across the state! We know we have supporters in every county, and we want them to know their vote matters. We’ll be calling from Whitman to Whatcom, Stevens to Skamania, all the presidents — Grant, Lincoln, Jefferson — and everywhere in between! Let’s get out of that RURAL DEMOCRATIC vote with just one month to go until Election Day!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

We are Phone Banking every Tuesday and Thursday from now till the election. Canvassers are needed, please contact us to sign up in your county or area. We will provide all you need. Text banking is coming soon! Please check out the events page for Get Out the Vote event near you!

CAMPAIGN UPDATE

Thank you to the Tri-City Herald for inviting me to their candidate interview. It was the first, and probably the last, time I will face Rep. Dan Newhouse.

When I meet persons who have shouldered such responsibility I expect them to be significant, sadly he was not. I was disappointed.

I have heard that he is a good man, but I saw someone that looked worn. After voting to impeach Trump we know he had to grovel to get back into the good graces of the GOP, which is unlikely to ever happen.

But what saddened me most was when I called him on the vile and disgusting lies told in a push poll conducted to damage my reputation. I thought I was talking to that “good guy”. When I demanded he stop them, make a statement against such political actions, and apologies he looked deflated. He confessed he did not know what was going on in his campaign and made no offer to stop it, speak out against it, or apologies. As outraged as I am about this attack on me and my family, I think I am more sad for him. Since voting to impeach Trump he has surrendered all his independence trying to hang on to what is left of his career.

On better news, I had such a great time at the Yakima Sun Fair Parade. I am grateful to everyone who came and joined us. Democrats were out in force! The parade was sensational, good food and great people. We had a great turnout. I was honored to be on the judging board for the Salsa Dancing competition. Had a great time and was able to have a short talk with everyone, sharing my vision for the District.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Last week I had a chance to celebrate my birthday with family, friends, and my supporter at Hop Capital Brewing. It was one of the great birthdays I have had in my life and in my career. Surrounded by your great support, I feel more confident in this campaign more than ever.

District 4 is a wonderful area with so much to give. We the people who live here deserve to have a leader with the right set of priorities. I believe I have the right mindset and skills to deliver.

I am ready to make a change. I hope I have your vote.

Join the Washington State Democrats for our Weekend of Action! Come hear Doug White and Jeff Strickler as they kick us off before we canvass fellow Democrats to increase voter turnout and support for our awesome candidates up and down the ballot ahead of the critical November general election!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

We are Phone Banking every Tuesday and Thursday from now till the election. Canvassers are needed, please contact us to sign up in your county or area. We will provide all you need. Text banking is coming soon! Please check out the events page for Get Out the Vote event near you!

Hi all,

Reaching out with some updates from our campaign – 42 days until Election Day and just over 3 weeks until ballots are mailed!

First and foremost, we hope you join the WA Dems this weekend (October 1-2) for a major statewide Weekend of Action – Senator Murray will be at canvass launches on Saturday in Burien and Columbia City. Sign up to join her on the trail – and continue to drive folks to lend a hand for this final stretch. Republicans are currently pouring money into voter contact efforts and attack ads – your help and our ground game is what will ensure we elect Democrats up and down the ticket this November!

Our team continues to drive home the clear choice for Washington voters in this race. A brief ICYMI for this week:

  • New Joe Kent audio where he calls Smiley “pure MAGA.” In case it’s helpful for you and your team, here are some suggested Facebook posts and tweets to call out Tiffany Smiley’s ties to Joe Kent and MAGA Republicans.
  • The New York Times highlighted Tiffany Smiley as an election denier and how she has tried to sanitize and hide her extreme views about the 2020 election from Washington voters ahead of the general.
  • Smiley was called out for her use of MAGA Republican talking points to try to mislead voters.

Finally, Senator Murray will be live on Facebook tomorrow at 2pm PT with Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts, talking about what’s at stake for commonsense gun safety reform in this election – tune in and help us drive folks to the conversation. And check out our new ad on prescription drugs that’s currently running in the Spokane market – we’d love for you to amplify as you’re able!

As always, let me know if there are any questions or if you need anything further from the campaign—we appreciate your support!

Best,

With election day — November 8 — only six weeks away, our campaign is working hard, gathering momentum and volunteers, which we’d love to build on!

Do you have just two hours to join me, and other Democratic candidates and volunteers, this Saturday or Sunday for a “Weekend of Action” to talk with fellow voters?

I know how over-scheduled fall weekends can get with the flurry of activities for those with children in school and all of the busyness of everyday life.

But if we are going to do this, if we are going to stand up for women’s rights, for affordable housing and childcare, if we are going to protect our democracy from the extremists who are striving to undermine it — it is going to take all of us. Each and every one of us.

For too long, folks have dismissed the Democrats in eastern Washington. They counted us out, but we’ve discovered the power that comes from counting on each other. I’m proud to be running as a Democrat alongside so many remarkable candidates for local offices. It has been a beautiful thing to witness our campaigns and volunteers working together to talk with voters about the candidates, issues, and the importance of participating in the democratic process.

So, can we count you in?

We’d love to see you at one (or more!) of the following events happening this weekend:

  • Saturday, October 1: 10 AM and 1 PM Canvass at 415 Mckinley St:
  • Saturday, October 1: 4 PM Phone Banking (training included) at 415 Mckinley St.
  • Saturday: The Washington State Democrats are sponsoring a reception after these events for all our volunteers!
  • Sunday, October 2: 10 AM and 1 PM canvass at Lions Park
  • Sunday, October 2: 4 PM and 6 PM phone banking

You are welcome to just show up, but if you’d like to give us a heads up that you will be coming, or would like more information about volunteering, you can contact:
Eliza Welty, Field Organizer, at (909) 630-4268 or eliza@wa-democrats.org.

We have volunteer opportunities available during the week and on future weekends, too!

As always, contributions of your time or money to support our campaign are so appreciated. We couldn’t do this without you!

– Jan Corn

Candidate Forum: Save the Date!

Join us for a candidate forum on Thursday, October 6 at 6:30pm on Zoom. Candidates for State Representative (position 2), Prosecuting Attorney, and County Commissioner District 3 will participate. You will need to register in advance to attend or ask questions.

As a former service worker and small business owner, I know what it means to work hard. Campaign Kickoff

The Tri Cities Chamber of Commerce recently held a lunch for Newhouse; I got no time. They scheduled a candidate forum, but canceled it. They’re holding an “elected” leader’s reception and I am shut out again.

Tri Dec, as I understand, has actively helped organize rallies for Newhouse and sent emails that support him.

PNNL – which I have the highest level of respect for, has complaints shared with my campaign of officials using their staff contact lists to distribute pro Newhouse messages that seem too political to be acceptable communications.

We expect the Tri Cities Chamber, Tri Dec and PNNL to always operate in the best interest of the community. It then becomes important to ask, why are they going to such lengths to promote a single candidate?

What makes it more difficult to understand is that Newhouse’s record shows that he has done little for the Tri Cities. He votes against unions, he has abused workers’ trust at Hanford on issues of Covid, he has written legislation to slow our move to carbon free energy and the money that comes in to fund Hanford Cleanup and PNNL comes from the work of our Senators.

This is an injustice to the people of the Tri Cities. This is how the right to vote for the best candidate is systematically taken away from us. Big money, cronyism and abuse of authority. Do not stand for it!

As I mentioned in the previous newsletter, I had the opportunity to chat with the people in Omak via the KOMW Okanogan Talk Radio!
If you missed it live, you can listen to it on Youtube to know more about my vision for the District and goal I will accomplish for different areas once I get elected.
It was another busy week! It was a great honor to be able to present a scholarship check on behalf of the Democrats of Douglas and Chelan counties to Fiestas Mexicanas! Two deserving, recipients will share the prize.
In other news, our campaign for the midterm election officially kicked off on the 16th in Methow Valley and on the 20th in Tri-Cities. I am so grateful for anyone who came and continues to support our journey to victory. Grassroots efforts are how we make changes and restore true Democracy that has been backsliding due to damages caused by Republican congressional members, including Dan Newhouse himself. How can we improve the community as a whole if our incumbent district representative has voted against expanding veteran benefits, against multiple health care Acts, and against infrastructure development and working labor benefits? District 4th deserves to have the right leader with full transparency and represent our voices above party in Congress to bring enough of our tax dollars to defend this country and invest in ourselves. We need someone with the right set of priorities. I believe I have the right mindset and skills to deliver.
I am ready to make a change. I hope I have your vote.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

We are Phone Banking every Tuesday and Thursday from now till the election. Canvassers are needed, please contact us to sign up in your county or area. We will provide all you need. Text banking is coming soon! Please check out the events page for Get Out the Vote event near you!

Doug White has made it through the Primary and is moving on to the General! Please join us in Kennewick on Tuesday, September 20th at 6:00 PM to kick off this next stage of Doug’s Campaign for Congress. We would love to see you there!

Doug is a fourth-generation Central Washington farmer, born and raised in Yakima. He is running because he was taught right from wrong and to live by the golden rule and like many of us he is angry at how our politicians have neglected Central Washington’s needs, such as water, immigration, and infrastructure.

Doug was victorious in the primary election and is now facing Dan Newhouse in the general election. It is critical that we come together and support Doug as we enter this next stage of the campaign. Doug’s general election campaign kickoff event in the Tri-Cities is a great opportunity to learn more about the campaign, hear from Doug on the issues, and meet with fellow supporters. I have attached the full invitation to this email. Here are the details on when to join and how to RSVP:

Hi all,

Happy National Voter Registration Day! Reaching out to share some updates from the campaign, and flag new outside spending that we’re beginning to see pour in from Republican-backed groups.

An outside PAC called “Evergreen Principles” is now spending nearly $1.7 million on an extremely misleading TV ad that will run for the next month. This comes just days after a major Trump-funded super PAC began a $500k buy that includes false claims about the Inflation Reduction Act. We’re now being outspent on the airwaves in the final weeks leading up to ballot drop—putting things in a dangerous place, as recent, credible public polling (Trafalgar, who conducted some of the most recent polling, has an A- rating by 538) is showing a single-digit race.

To the extent that folks are able, you can chip in to support the campaign HERE, and lift up Senator Murray’s Facebook post about this HERE. Our team is going to be working hard to at least work back to parity on the airwaves—we expect national Republicans to continue to dump money into this race to make up for floundering candidates in other key states. Many of you have heard me say that Senator Murray never takes a race for granted, especially in a year like this where we know Republicans can pour in outside money at any moment. That moment is now, and your support, time, and commitment make a big difference.

As part of the effort to push out our message, we’re going up with a new ad today titled “Madi.” It features a young woman from Texas who had to travel 14 hours to receive reproductive health care after Texas enacted its extreme abortion ban. It comes as Smiley’s campaign doubled down on her support for the Texas abortion ban over the weekend, with a spokesperson clarifying that Smiley’s “‘position is pro-life, and she respects the decision the state of Texas made’”. You can watch the ad here, and we’d love for you to amplify it on social as you are able.

With just a month until ballots drop, we’re working hard to build out the grassroots infrastructure that will help us elect Democrats up and down the ballot in November. There are tons of ways to get involved in these final weeks—please continue to drive folks to sign up for shifts through the WA Dems, including for a major Weekend of Action October 1-2.

Finally, in case it’s helpful to you and your teams, sharing some suggested draft Facebook and Instagram posts and tweets here that you are free to use and repurpose when talking about Senator Murray’s race this week.

As always, let me know if there are any questions or if you need anything further from the campaign—we appreciate your support!

Best,
