Happy Pride Month!
Everybody should be treated with dignity and respect, no matter who they are, what they look like or who they love. I was raised in a household where everyone was accepted for who they are, and I do my best to follow that example.
While serving in the Attorney General’s office, my team and I:
- Established the Wing Luke Civil Rights Division, which is a leading force fighting for equality in our state and country,
- Guaranteed freedom from discrimination for same-sex couples in the marketplace with our historic victory in the Arlene’s Flowers case,
- Upheld the ban on youth conversion therapy in Washington,
- Fought against Donald Trump’s transgender military ban, and
- Ensured same-sex couples working for O’Reilly Auto Parts now receive equal health care benefits — nationwide.
Pride is love, and love is action. I will continue to be a strong advocate for the LGBTQ+ community as Governor. Conversely, anti-choice Republican Dave Reichert opposes marriage equality — he will not fight for equality and justice for all Washingtonians.
I hope you’ll join me in celebrating Pride Month today, and in recognizing the progress we’ve made, the beauty and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community, and the work that still remains to be done.
In solidarity,
Bob
