I’ll be straight with you, I’ve done a lot of tough things in my life.
I played college football, tried to make it in the NFL and CFL. That was tough, mentally, physically, emotionally.
I served as a Capitol Police officer for over 15 years, those were tough some days.
But the aftermath of the January 6 insurrection was one of the toughest things I’ve been through. My pain, my trauma, it didn’t end on January 7.
Even after the violence of that day, I dealt with death threats. I dealt with people harassing me for speaking out. And when I decided to testify in front of Congress? It was one of the toughest things I’ve ever faced.
But the fight still continues now. What happened on January 6 was an attempt to halt the peaceful transfer of power and to overturn an election. I defended our democracy with my life on January 6, and I will do everything in my power to make sure Donald Trump never steps foot in the Oval Office again.
Donald Trump encouraged a violent mob of his supporters, turned them loose on our U.S. Capitol, and ran scared back to the White House.
As a U.S. Capitol Police officer, I was there that day — fighting for our democracy and my own life alongside my coworkers as they were injured, beaten bloody, and pepper sprayed.
President Biden said that the January 6 insurrection posed the gravest threat to our democracy since the Civil War.
I can tell you firsthand, Kendall: He is absolutely right. And Donald Trump remains the greatest threat to our democracy and to the safety of communities across the country.
I hope you’ll chip in today.
Thank you,
Harry
