October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and it’s crucial that we highlight a significant factor that exacerbates domestic abuse: gun violence.

The stark reality is that in Washington, 56% of intimate partner homicides are carried out with a firearm. Perpetrators use guns more often than all other weapons combined, and women account for 80% of these victims. Black, Indigenous, and people of color are significantly more likely to be killed by guns than white individuals. Black Washingtonians face the highest rate – 21.3 per 100,000 people.

We all have a part to play in preventing gun violence and supporting victims of domestic abuse:

Stay informed: Understanding the link between domestic violence and firearm access is vital.

Advocate for Change: Join us by supporting legislation that promotes responsible gun ownership and protects victims.

Join the Movement: Learn how to get involved by visiting our website gunresponsibility.org

Domestic Violence is a profound issue that, when combined with easy access to firearms, becomes even more lethal. By addressing gun violence, we can make significant strides in protecting the most vulnerable and creating safer communities.
