Did you know that Michigan is one of only 7 states in the country that charges money for a personal protection order (PPO)?
But, thanks to the work of our partner organization, End Gun Violence Michigan, the state house in Lansing just passed a bill to make PPOs free – a move that could dramatically increase access for survivors, and prevent tragedy before it can happen.
Michigan is one of our partner states, who we’ve worked with on our model of state-based change for years – and they’re seeing results and saving lives with their work in Lansing.
Michigan’s bill can empower survivors to seek out the support they need, without being penalized financially. Increasing access to PPOs will keep firearms out of the hands of domestic abusers and others who shouldn’t have them – to prevent domestic and intimate partner violence from becoming deadly.
Thank you,
AGR
