Even as the gun violence epidemic in our country continues to be the number one killer of American children and adolescents, the Trump Administration is deleting the evidence.
Last summer, under the direction of the Biden Administration, the U.S. Surgeon General issued an advisory declaring gun violence to be the public health crisis it is. The Trump Administration has removed that advisory, putting profits for their gun industry friends and donors over people’s lives.
This is the latest in a series of moves by the Trump administration to stop any action that will address our nation’s gun violence epidemic. Data is disappearing from federal websites; FBI Director Kash Patel was appointed by Trump to also lead the Bureau of of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; the Department of Justice is working to bypass restrictions on restoring access to guns to prohibited persons; and on his first day in office, Trump closed the White House Office on Gun Violence Prevention.

President Trump placing an end to the collection of data will not prevent gun violence from harming our communities. Although it’s only March, our nation’s gun violence epidemic has already claimed nearly 3,000 lives – with 52 of those lives lost being children.
Rolling back safeguards and deleting critical data will make America’s gun violence crisis worse. The Trump administration’s actions will hinder law enforcement, hamper state leaders and halt local organizations working to prevent the gun violence by eliminating resources, federal support and evidence-based strategies that can save lives.
Here’s what we’re going to do about it – keep making progress in the states. We saw huge wins in Washington State last year, and in 2025, we are seeing commonsense gun safety and responsibility opportunities arise in states from Maine to Oregon. Americans from coast-to-coast are demanding the passage of policies that will help end the gun violence affecting our communities.
