In case you missed it Tuesday, I’m proud to be joining forces with the Alliance — and I want to tell you why.
Gun violence is now the leading cause of death for children in America. That should alarm every one of us — and it’s exactly why this work is so urgent. We can’t wait for the federal government to get its act together. We have to act now.
As governor of Washington, I saw firsthand how powerful grassroots supporters can be when we organize around a clear goal like ending gun violence. And I know that local action is how we win this fight.
If you believe, like I do, that we can end the gun violence epidemic — I hope you’ll take a minute to watch my video, and then chip in whatever you can to support this work today.
Gun violence is tearing through our communities. It’s a public health crisis that claims more than 35,000 lives each year — and yet, instead of acting, many in Washington, D.C. are actively making things worse.
The Trump Administration has already eliminated the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention — the very office responsible for coordinating our national response to mass shootings and community violence. They’ve rolled back essential firearm regulations and even deleted critical data from federal websites — data that helps us understand and prevent gun deaths.
This isn’t just inaction. It’s sabotage.
While the federal government turns its back, the Alliance for Gun Responsibility is stepping up — state by state, law by law. We’ve already passed some of the strongest, most effective gun safety policies in the country right here in Washington: permit-to-purchase laws, secure storage requirements, and restrictions on guns in schools, hospitals, and other sensitive places.
Now we’re taking that fight nationwide. But we can’t do it without you.
The Alliance is taking this fight to statehouses across the country — because while some in Washington, D.C. are stalling or actively dismantling progress, we can’t afford to wait. Gun violence is a public health crisis, and we know it’s preventable. And we need your help to keep going.
We’ve seen what happens when leaders cave to the gun lobby. We’ve also seen what’s possible when we refuse to back down. Now is the time to choose which side of history we’ll be on.
Let’s stand together and keep leading.
With determination,
Jay Inslee
Former Governor of Washington
