I’m Padma Lakshmi. You may know me from my time on “Top Chef” or from my show “Taste The Nation.” But there’s another role that’s just as important to me: ACLU artist ambassador for women’s rights & immigrants’ rights.
I’m reaching out today because the ACLU’s end-of-year giving deadline is coming up, and they’re counting on us to help them raise $750,000 before midnight on December 31.
Every gift before the deadline up to their goal will be doubled thanks to a generous donor.
2024 saw an escalation of harmful, discriminatory rhetoric targeting immigrants and asylum seekers, alongside some of the most extreme and dangerous pieces of legislation ever proposed – like S.B. 4 in Texas and H.B. 4156 in Oklahoma.
The ACLU took Texas, Oklahoma, and even the Biden administration to court to protect the rights of immigrants all over the country, and now, as a new president and new Congress prepare to take office, the ACLU is preparing for the new fights we know will come.
Right now, the ACLU is suing multiple federal immigration agencies in preparation for potential mass detention and deportation programs by future presidential administrations. If ANY future president attempts to implement such a dangerous, unconstitutional program, the ACLU will be ready for them.
With strength,

Padma Lakshmi
