We are ready to face the challenges that are to come in the year ahead, and we want your perspective on where we devote our resources!
President Trump’s abuses of power, attacks on immigrant communities, and attempts to silence dissent are only growing more severe.
The ACLU will continue to fight back with everything we have – and as we plan for the year ahead, we’re sharing a peek at our top priorities. After reading through them, we hope you’ll share which priorities are most important to you, so we can keep fighting for the issues that matter the most.
Our priorities for 2026, as the second Trump administration continues:
- Free Speech
President Trump and his allies are systematically working to silence anyone who disagrees with their anti-liberty agenda. In 2026, we will continue to defend the right of everyone in this country to speak freely, including students, protesters, and journalists, regardless of immigration status. - Immigrants’ Rights
This year, we went to court and won major rulings against the Trump administration’s use of the Alien Enemies Act to deport immigrants without due process and the executive order attacking citizenship for babies born on US soil. With your support in the year ahead, we’ll be continuing to defend our communities at every turn, including defending birthright citizenship at the Supreme Court. - Voting Rights
With the midterm elections coming up, our work to protect voting rights will not slow down. We’ve already achieved historic wins for voters of color in Alabama, Montana, and Mississippi. In the next year, we’ll continue to fight for voting rights and fair representation, as we wait for a decision in our Supreme Court case, Louisiana v. Callais. - Abuse of Power
As the Trump administration continues to try and deploy military troops and heavily armed federal agents into our cities, the ACLU and our affiliates will continue protecting people’s rights in the streets, at the courthouse, and in Congress. We’re sending a clear message: U.S. troops are not the president’s personal police force. - LGBTQ Rights
The ACLU will continue to defend the rights of transgender people and everyone in the LGBTQ community in the year ahead – from defending the freedom of transgender people’s right to access health care to defending trans students’ right to play sports at the Supreme Court. - Mobilizing the Masses
In the year ahead, we will continue to organize our millions of supporters across the country to contact their lawmakers, attend Know Your Rights trainings, and show up at protests where it matters most.
But that’s just the start. We’re so grateful to the lawyers, activists, organizers, and supporters like you who fuel this work in all 50 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico. As we look to the new year, we continue our pledge to always show up to protect all our rights.
